Hey,

I am just wondering if anyone has taken an exam at this site. I know nothing about it and had a few questions.

What is the exam room like? What can you do on breaks? Are you allowed to leave at all? Can you look material over between blocks?

Just a general overview is all I'm asking for as I have no idea what to expect. Maybe someone could describe their day at Thomson Prometric for me?

Thanks all!

I think everyone has to take Step 1 at a Thomson Prometric site. There are several across the country.

Exam room = a bunch of cubicles/booths filled with computers. Kind of like the ones that they have at the DMV when you take your learner's permit test. Headphones are available, but optional.

You can ONLY leave after you finish a block. At the end of each block, it gives you the option of moving on to the next block or taking a break. You can theoretically leave in the middle of a block, but that is marked as an irregularity on your score report.

If you decide to take a break, you can leave the testing room. You'll need to sign in and out (and show ID to the proctor) each time you leave.

You can look over material in between blocks. Since you can't go back to previous blocks, and you don't know what's coming in the next blocks, there's no reason why you can't. (Whether or not it's useful is debatable.)
