hey guys, this is my first post. im a sophomore in college and ill be applying for dental school for fall 2009. i thought maybe people in the same position could talk and discuss what there doing, and others could give advice of things we should be doing and where we are supposed to be at?!

right now im just working on that GPA.....ive known my whole life I wanted to be a dentist, i want to be an orthodontist, and i would LOVE to go to ASDOH and live in AZ until I die....

i also work at a dental office, ive worked there for the past 16 months and i LOVE every second of it, especially when i get to do hands on things!!!!

alright well i know when these things are long i dont like to read them so i tried to keep it short, hope to talk to you all!!!!!!

90% of the journey is wanting it bad enough, which it sounds like you do. Just make sure you SHOW that you want it with GPA and DAT scores. You'll be alright

def seems like u have the "push'' to become a dentist. im a sophomore going to become a junior this fall too. and im taking my dat this august. i already took orgo, gen chem, and bio so i feel the longer i wait, i will forget even more info. plus, i want to send in my app as soon as possible by next year, and i want to prove to the shools that i know my sciences since my gpa isnt too great right now. if u think u can take the exam and do well on it by the end of this summer then i would suggest you go for it. but be warned, ur summer will practically be over as u know it, since u will be studying for the rest of the summer.

I wish I would have done one thing which I will suggest to you!...
TAKE THE DAT THE SUMMER BEFORE YOU APPLY! I wish like heck I would have studied for the whole summer last year and just not worked! Then I could have taken the DAT at the end of the summer and this year I could have applied without stress.

I watched my friends who took the summer off or even winter semester so they could prepare for the DAT. They did good and then when May 15th came around they easily had time to fill out the application on AADSAS..

SO take the DAT earlier! I studied for 2 months took it right before June 1st and did really good. Now I am applied to all the D-schools I want and life is good!

Hey I'm a sophmore about to become a junior. I'm in summer school right now taking O. Chem II and Human Biology. I don't know when to take the DAT either. Can we take it any time we want or do they only offer it at certain times?

thanks all for the advice! yea, i def would LOVE to take the DAT this summer, but im not taking orgo until fall. so my guess is ill spend winter studying for it and take it in spring. i thinkk you can take it whenever your ready.....

unfortunately i couldnt get financial aid for summer or else id be taking summer classes, like orgo. but yea as soon as im done orgo id like to take the test since it will be fresh in my mind.

bumping my very first post 🙂 a lots changed since then.....

spring of junior year.....applying for dental school on 2-3 months....

anyways this thread isn't to reflect on how ive changed, its for people applying for fall '09! im just wondering where everyone is at in preperation for applying when AADSAS opens may 15th. i was wondering if there is anyway i can get in there and fill out the application (i know it wouldnt be the one for fall 09) and then when may 15th comes just open the saved one? Im thinking this may not work since I THINK the '08 has closed for AADSAS. Also I cant login to AADSAS - is there a fee or do I have to sign up some how?

Anyway, besides that, ive got to write my personal statement, get all my LORs and study for the DAT which i plan to take the end of may or early june. ohhhh and take out a loan for all this - thats a big one!!

the AADSAS for 2008 cycle is closed. try asking around if anyone from the 2008 has printed their applicated and if you can take a look.

i never heard of anything like "open" a "saved" application. when the application comes out may 15th you will have to fill the whole thing out.

just keep on top of everything

I would suggest taking the DAT's as soon as possible....studying about 2 or 3 months if you work/school full time. Otherwise, depending on your own study time and how recent the material is for you. The reason behind this is to have enough time to retake it in the summer in the event you don't do as well as you would like. I will be retaking it this June and am re-applying for 2009...😳. Hopefully this will be a better round!!

I took the DAT August between my soph year and junior year. Wouldn't change a thing about the way I did it.
