Hello Everyone, I hope I can ask a somewhat personal and philosophical question:

I've been curious about your personal lives, particularly pertaining to how with all of your studies, volunteer hours, and Research, and whatnot, are you able to maintain your personal relationships with friends and family. If home is indeed where the heart is, how far have you detached yourself from your own heart?

P.S.: I'm only asking this due to my own personal experience seeing people no longer hold ties to their families, or become like people ashamed to look their families in the eyes. Thanks for you time!

I put them on the altar of sacrifice to the medical gods. Just kidding, I manage to go home to see the folks every month or so.

I feel like undergrad has strengthened my bond with my family somewhat.

lol, I live with my parents, so in fact, it makes it easier all the stuff required as I wont have to do a lot of the work... I made a smart move my not moving away to another college 🙂

Well after freshman year I no long saw my parents house as my home. Freshman year I would say " Oh Im going back home this weekend" But now I say "Oh Im going to my mom's house this weekend"

Like you said home is where the heart is and as time passed my heart was at college with my new friends in this new city. I still go visit my parents a few times a year but it not the same! Like the bed I slept in for year feels weird because it not MY bed!

My friends are my new family, but I still make time for my real family because I love them!

I agree with loveorganic. My parents and I have a better relationship since I moved out 🙂

Even though I commute (about an hour), as soon as I get home, I spend most my time in my room, studying or outside volunteering the graveyard shift at my EMS squad. My mom did get a bit upset that I didn't spend too much time with the family. Regardless of having so much to do, she said that it still helps to sit down with the family 15-30 minutes a day. I try to do that. Don't lose connection with your family

Creepy-ly worded question.

My relationship with my family has gotten a whole lot stronger over undergrad. My parents transitioned well to treating my brothers and I as adults as we grew up and left the house.
