How did the interview go?

Hi. If anyone would be kind to share their experiences, it would be greatly appreciated. I have an interview mid-November and am nervous.

I don't want specific questions as it would be unfair, but overall what were your feelings were for the interview.

Thank you.

i had one 10/10. it was cool 🙂

cool???😕 Is it one to one interview??? how's the school?? Is the facility really good??

the facility is cute. they give you all the information about the interview once you are invited. 🙂

my interview is coming up on the 21st... i'll be sure to provide a summary of it and some thoughts :]

Cute in what way? "cute" for a straight man or a homosexual?

umm, what is that supposed to mean?
I thought you were the one that started the "gay" thread. if not my bad.
When you said the staff was cute I didn't understand.

so i just finished my western u interview. pretty nice campus. really quiet. other public health schools on campus seem really close to one another. class sizes are really small. western u seems to be in its own lil bubble.

interview wasn't bad. 🙂 their plans for the school sound very promising. they plan on having textbooks on dvd's which is nice. hehe. module system too for academics. 1st n 2nd year basic sciences classes are taken with med students. seem to stress the importance of interacting with other public health fields n working together to solve the problem. i was overall impressed. tuition is about $49,500 n total cost with living expenses should be around $75,000. PM me if anyone has more questions.

those costs are per year right, not total 4 year tuition?

I'll echo everything she said. Though there will likely be several bumps along the way, I think WesternU's vision is exciting.

I especially liked the Executive Associate Dean, Dr. Trombly - he seems like a super cool guy, with tons of knowledge and impressive connections. Malika and Hazelle, the admissions coordinators, were extremely kind to me throughout the process.

anyone know how many applicants get interview invites and how many get accepted?

I agree with 10/17 interviewers as well. Though of all the interviews I've had so far, they asked the more thought-provoking type. Not killer questions but caught me off guard a bit. Overall, very enjoyable and informative experience.

My interview is on 11/18.
Anyone on the same day?

only cuz they want to add a hot guy to their school b/c their school obviously lacks in that area. 😉 but bumps are fun!!!! it'll be a learning experience for us all and plus we could tell our grandkids all about it. 😛

you learn alot about yourself at the interview. haha. i didn't think i could answer all those questions to my satisfaction but i did.

other programs at Western University.

1) How they are evaluated currently? (PharmD, Nursing, DO, etc)

2) Btw, how dental students can study with MD pursuing students? I can't find any MD program over there.

3) What's the one outstanding feature of Western University(Any health related programs) that u've ever heard from others, website, friends, etc?

1) i don't understand this question....

2) they're MD program is their DO program. n basically the basic sci classes for DMD n DO students are the same, that's why the DMD students can study with the DO students... only thig diff would be the clinical aspects.

3) VetMed. only two vet schools in cali, one at Davis n one at Western U. (my cousin goes to the Western U one)

YEAH THEY DON"T HAVE MD PROGRAM, but one guy mentioned D-students will study with MD students.

Very good answers! A lot help! Thanks.

As per #1 question, I was asking the school's reputation.
Ex) This school is a lot recognized for its superior research.
This school is ranked #10 in DO program according to xx source.

Anyway, sounds interesting. I will soon visit the place beforehand.

Going back to my title...I think you were really impressed at the program. 🙂

What time did the interview end?

they plan to give 250-300 interviews for 64 spots. they still have several interviews left to offer. there were only 7 of us yesterday. we were the 6th group of about that size(usually 6 interviewees). they told me they hope to start bringing in 12 per interview, twice a week in november (approx 100 more pre-dec 1st)

the interview day was pretty simple. the questions were definitely different than anywhere else i've been so far, so i got caught off guard a little bit too, like cookiedough mentioned. however, the interviewers were very careful to try to keep it stress free and to not put too much pressure on. i thought the admissions staff was very friendly as they brought us around. honestly, they don't do quite as good of a job selling their program to you in their presentation as some other schools. but, during our Q&A with Dr. Trombley, i was very impressed with everything he had to say about their plans for the curriculum and for the program in general. there is a lot of potential there imo.

I think they have the smallest student body size in Cali. :scared:

So anyone that has interviewed feel up to sharing an example or two of these thought provoking interview questions?

Staffs are nice, so just relax and be yourself.

Instead, I want to ask what you guys think about Western University after interview.

Did u see that picture of their new facilities?

Do you think it's a very big one?

I heard the contstruction will be completed by next August. However, it may not be completed by then.

Something confusing at this point is whether...
D-students will use temporary place for pre-clinical training regardless of its completion.

As for my info.....
D-students will be able to use the new facility as long as the new construction is completed by August. If it's not completed by then, the first D-students will use temporary place in equivalent quality until the construction is over.

However, it's also possible that D-students will use temporary place for a while, and use that new facility only for clinical training. (not during pre-clinical training!)

Plz anybody corrects me, if you have different information.

according to a letter i received today, the colleges will begin Aug 2009 but the buildings will be open Aug 2010.
i appreciate that Western sent this letter out to keep us updated. very thoughtful of them. hope i get an interview!

that is good to hear. I just completed my app there recently. Does that mean they still have 100+ invites to give out?👍

I got the same letter yesterday. I thought it was an interview invitation. Had a good time walking all the way from the mailbox to my room, opening the envelope and starting to read the first paragraph. Once I got to the second paragraph, booom, there is no interview invitation:laugh:

Anyway, I will trust you cuz ur saying is based on the letter. I will check mine, too!

Yeah, so D1 students are having pre-clinical training at a temporary place in the currently existing building. I should be right!

Then, when the new buildings open, D2 or D3 (charter members) will be able to use that new facilities, while new D1's at that time will take advantage of this new building from the begining.

If anything is still wrong, plz correct me!

well..i have have not visited alot of schools, but i think western has alot to offer, besides the brand new facility and equiptments i think whats most important is the relationship between the faculty staff and their students. when i was at my interview everyone was super nice random ppl on the street would wish us good luck for our interview and staff would stop and say hi and chat with us like family members. also another strong point for western is they promote time slots for students from all the health care majors to work together and solve a case and treat patient as a whole. which i think is something i have never seen before.

as for the construction i was told that it was originally going to be open aug of 2009, but its going to be postponed till dec of 2009. we will be placed at a off campus site with the same equipment that is going to be in the new building and once the building is done we will be able to use the building.

I love western and hopefully will get some good news on Dec. 1st

In 2007~

I am talking about their new dental school.

Yeah~ that inter-professional education is interesting.

Their pbl groups are composed of all health care practitioners together. (Vet, Do, DDM, Pharm.D, etc)

And the school wants to extend this tight relationship to a lifelong network among Western alumni members.

All staffs were really nice!

I am scheduled to have interview on 11/18 but was wondering if I can postpone my interview date to a little bit later like after Dec 1st. Do they have interview in Dec?

Hey dentistin2011,

IMO, you should take the earliest interview invite, unless there is a scheduling conflict. During my interview at WesternU I asked the Dean how many spots will they offer on Dec. 1, and from my understanding, they will offer a little more than the available 64 seats. They intend to interview a little over 130 by then, so that's nearly a 2:1 ratio of interviewees:acceptances. With those odds, I would take the interview.

If others heard different, please correct me.

Good Luck Everyone!

I'd better go for it then...

what letter are you guys talking about? I recieved a letter a while ago that didn't say anything about 2010, but it said something about the buildings being behind schedule

It may be in my D-schools' file. I will look at them later.

I directly heard from one ADCOM member that the construction is supposed to be completed by August 2009. But, the ADCOM member implied there could be unexpected delay, and if this happens it will not last so long, though! (In that case, D students will use temporary place for a while~)

Can anybody suggest any more clear evidence?
Example) How long the delay is expected? When is it supposed to be completed officially?

Plz understand if I missed something. I was sick during my interview day, so it's possible! Although, I don't think I am missing anything!

What time does the day end at western?

Ill be there Nov 18 too.
