Those who took time off after undergrad...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
While I think extracurricular activities are nice and all I think the best thing you can do is study hard and do very well on the MCAT. I would focus on that first. I think the schools weigh academics more than outside activities you are involved in. With that said I did volunteer in the ER (along with other ECs) but they never asked me about any of that in my interview. You could spend some time doing something in the community, and also try to spend some of your extra time shadowing and/or volunteering in a health care setting if possible. Just my 2 cents.

What did you do to strengthen your application for pod school? What kinds of activities were adcoms impressed by?

I took three years off and schools were very impressed by the amount of hospital volunteering I did... which IMO was not THAT substantial (maybe 100-150hours?)...

I do have a strong research background however.

Some were in practice for another health care profession. Some had experience as personal trainers. Some were professional athletes with great knowledge of a sport and lower extremity pathology. Some were children of health care professionals. Some were crazy smart!
