Hey guys!

So thankfully a research position with the NIA in Baltimore as an IRTA may be what's next in my future. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about Baltimore as an area? I would really appreciate any comments about social life, things to do, things to see, and anything else haha. I'm a pop culture fanatic (love tv, movies, comics). Is there a niche for someone like me in Baltimore?

Thanks for any help.

Bronycon? I used to go every year, but I didn't keep up and slowly dropped out of the fandom. Still a good show though 😛

Oh wow, I didn't know it was held there. Ironically, that is probably the one major fandom I am not a part of haha.

I live in Baltimore and absolutely love it. I'm sad I have to move next month. There's a great social life with a big bar scene (not really any clubs, just bars), lots of festivals in the warmer weather. The neighborhoods around the harbor have a lot of character and tons of places to eat. And it's really easy to get to DC. I'd suggest living in Fed Hill, Fells Point or Canton. Fed Hill has a somewhat younger crowd than the other two. I can't say I'm much for pop culture but I do remember there being comic con type things in addition to, yes, bronycon. There are things like outdoor movies in the summer, food truck gatherings, concerts, a running festival, rec kickball/softball/volleyball etc, holiday bar crawls. Mt. Vernon and Hampden are great, quirky neighborhoods to hang out in with more of a "hipster," artsy scene. Feel free to message me.

Former resident, agree with above.

Fun city with a lot of "heart".

One of the best baseball stadiums in the country, located in the center of the city.

Great art festival in the summer: http://www.artscape.org/

I lived in Baltimore for 7 years. I moved away for work 2 years ago and I really miss it.

Lol, I find the people praising Baltimore to be hilarious. I live in Baltimore and can tell you it depends. Are you going to Baltimore County or Baltimore City? It makes a BIG difference. Baltimore county is sunshine and rainbows, Baltimore city is hell. Home of the Freddy Gray riots, people get shot, stabbed and robbed all the time in broad daylight, dirty as hell. Terrible and corrupt school systems. You either graduate from hgih school and do great things, or you end up dead or in jail, at least thats what some of my teachers say. It's just a mess. And no im not exaggerating. Stay away from any part of the West side and certain parts of the South if you can. As far as social life, everyone is really to themselves. We do have stuff like comic con, comic book shops, and movie theaters ect, but those are not in Baltimore city. Aside from Mondawmin Mall, which is a terrible place. People get robbed and sometimes shot their all the time. It's not even worth it. However in the county, there's fantastic places such as White Marsh mall and Towson mall. The Harbor is probably the most ineresting or fun place here besides the mall. And the other guy is right, Downtown is a very, very busy area. The closet you will get to New York around here. I think I should also mention it's ranked the 7th most dangerous city in America. Just be safe and be aware of your surroundings. And don't go to certaina reas such as the West side or deep South if you don't have to. Those areas are what contribute the most to our beloved ranking.
