I didn't like Boston. It was cold and people were rude. I didn't particularly like the school either. My interviewer was horrible.
I know there are people there who really like it but that's just the feeling I came away with from there.

I really liked BU a lot. I was seriously considering ditching my interview on account of getting sick, but I'm totally glad I went. The overwhelming impression I got there is that clinicals would rock, and I may be biased towards Boston, but it's a great place to live for four years (albeit expensive). The students I talked to at lunch all seemed to love it, and my interview was one of the most comprehensive and friendly I've had. Since my interviewer was a dept chair, I was impressed that he took so much time to get to know my file and connect with me, and I heard from students that he was similarly great during their rotations.
1. Great city to be a student in. You can live in a nice area and take the T to school. The school is not in the nicest neighborhood.
2. Boston University Medical Center is a public hospital so you get great clinical experience.
3. B.U. is expensive and Boston is very expensive.
4. Impressive match list for a middle tier school.

5. Wanting to be in Boston would be the main reason to go there. Second reason would be the clinical experience and opportunities to make contacts for a residency in Boston.

so... i hate to bring up numbers, but the acceptance rate for BU seems incredibly low--like 3% or something.... is it really that hard to get in?? i interviewed there in October and really liked the school, but now i feel like the chances are so slim that i shouldn't get my hopes up... also, i believe there are 2 rounds of acceptances... what are the chances of being accepted in the first round??

I loved how the students were extremely happy to be there. That was great. I did think that the facilities weren't all that great AND I felt like a small fry among the Princeton, Harvard, and other expensive schools... The personalities of the interviewees were boring as hell (except for me and another girl - I think we were the only two that smiled) and the whole time I was thinking to myself "if I have to go to school with these people for 4 years I will DIE!!" How do they choose among the boring to get such an interesting and friendly class?? No wonder they interview so many people. It must be hard to find the kind of people they are looking for.
Bottom line... my excitment about BU was definitely killed during the interview day 🙁 And, I didn't even mind the average student debt!!

sorry to hear that. When I interviewed there my fellow interviewees were interesting and amiable. Maybe your group was not representative of all applicants, you could say the same thing about mine. My point is, it may not be right to judge their entire applicant pool by one group.

It's funny how you interpreted "these people" (meaning the people I was with, if you read carefully) to mean all of their applicants. Leave it to someone on SDN who lives to criticize others to pounce before getting the whole story...

re their low acceptance rate, I think they are expecting over 10k applications this year, which is INSANE. They let everyone know something (accept, defer, reject) at their earlier Jan decision date, which I think is cool. Not sure what the actual chances are at that date tho. Gives you a good chance to write 'em a letter tho, before they make their final decision, in the event of a deferral.
