M1 here. I've been thinking recently about specialties and something that always appealed to me was psychiatry. I also have an interest in potentially working with people affected by genocide. Any thoughts on whether this is feasible? Or is this too narrow of a focus? I appreciate your thoughts and input.

Team | BCRHHR Of course there are opportunities. Working exclusively with patients impacted by genocide may be too specific, but working with refugees/immigrants, some of whom experienced genocide, is probably more feasible.

Aim for psych programs in major cities. I'm in a major city with a large immigrant population. I've had a good number of patients on my psych rotation who came to the US after watching their families be killed/experiencing other major traumas. There is certainly a clinical need for this kind of service
