Thoughts on GlobalRPh

As a student, I had it drilled into my head (by professors) not to use GlobalRPh. They always mentioned it with a sneer. What are your thoughts on using the site? I feel like it has decent information, but I still just use my first resources (Micromedex, Lexi, etc).

No. Mine said the 4th year should be up and running by the time I finish my PGY3, so I'd better plan on 5 years to be safe.

At two of my hospital rotations the RPhs used globalRPh for vanco dosing and some of the other nifty calculators/info. I don't have any use for it at CVS. I don't know why you would sneer at such a cool resource.

Our ID professor loved that website - taught us to use it actually. I always thought it was pretty good. Why would they not want you to use it? To me, it's along the same lines as pharmacist letter

I use it fairly often - creatinine clearance multi-calculator, fluid osmolarity calculator [very cool tool], some dose interchange equivalents [statins, ACEi's, ARB's, etc.], sometimes phenytoin dosing. . . I haven't come across much that I have issues with.

When I was at the VA, the residency director said that's what they use for CrCl, vanco, etc...

It's a great tool as long as you treat the actual patient and not blindly treat the numbers.

I use it quite a lot. It's pretty much the bible at a community hospital that I work at and a community hospital I used to work at. I got yelled at for using it at the peds medical center.

I pretty much only use it for finding IV dilution information.

LOL! I had a co-4th year student on rotations with me that would do all the Pk calcs by hand. Aint nobody got time fo that, especially when the levels dont come back any better.

We use Global religiously for vanco dosing and sometimes for AMG (when not using once daily). I use the MedCalc app for CrCl and anything else found from global is of last resort when Lexi, Micromedex and other resources fail me.

That's pretty much all I used when I was on rotations, along with 98% of the Pharmacists that I met.

this x100 - I use it a lot (for a variety of things - vanco, opoid converstion, etc) But always do more than just look at the numbers, sometimes I have seen people do stupid XXXX by just putting in the numbers. It is a way to start your dosing, but remember, you went to school for 6-8 years, use your brain
