Thoughts on Osteopathy?

Hi everyone,

I'm an MS-III now and am doing my first rotation at a family practice clinic. The doctor I'm working with use to use OMM in his practice, but it has dwindled tremendously. He told me that OMM isn't covered by many medical insurance companies and so it has become a factor in his use of it. Does anyone have any comments about the use of OMM and it's relation to reimbursement? This could be another reason why some D.O.'s don't utilize their OMM training in their practices.

I dont know regarding specific plans, but I do know that many insurance carriers do cover OMT but break it up into regions of treatment opposed to therapy performed. For example, the rhomboid stretch technique wouldnt be billed as such but instead under the vague heading of thoracic region therapy. As for number of plans, I dunno but there are diagnostic and treament codes. Sorry Im not more helpful.
