I see very few threads about PCSOM.
I know very little about the school. Any thoughts about it? Is anybody on SDN considering the school and why or why not?

ghostchild,

I applied to the program and hopefully will be accepted for the class of 2010. I like the fact that they are most interested in training osteopathic primary care physicians.

Have you applied to other schools? Are you considering Pikeville?

I'm not really considering Pikeville anymore. I initially applied but withdrew when offered a spot elsewhere. I am mainly interested in the school because I am originally from a place pretty near the school in KY. I have met several students while doing volunteer work and they all appear to be very friendly and great students.

From what I hear, the school is fairly small and does a good job of training primary care physicians in an underserved region. Although on the flip side, I could see why many students would not want to attend med school in a rural area (not Pikeville itself but the surrounding area in KY).
Mainly, it took me a little while to realize that PCOM was not Pikeville (PCSOM) so I thought I'd start this thread because there seems to be so little information on sdn about PCSOM and I was wandering if it was overlooked, ignored for a reason, or just not talked about that much. It's a school with a great purpose who appears to do a good job from what I understand so far.

I can say if anybody goes to an interview at PCSOM be sure to take the time to stop at the local A&W!! 👍

I was accepted to PCSOM and I am strongly considering it. However, I was also accepted to NSUCOM. I love both schools, which are very different and in VERY different environments. Having a strong interest in orthopedics sports medicine, I am wondering if PCSOM would be the best for me. I love the fact that it is small and quiet and would allow for great studying but am unsure of the opportunities in that particular field, as far as rotations and residency. So, yes, I would also love any information anyone may have in regards to PCSOM.
