Hi all,

I was just wondering what the general consensus on these is - did those of you who took the test already use the headphones much or just when other people were typing their essays? Are they more trouble than they're worth?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

They definitely aren't super fantastic if that's what you're asking. For me, they obscured and muffled surrounding noises to some extent, but not everything. The sounds of others typing didn't bother me, so in that sense they were sufficient.

Again though, nothing to write home about.

They hurt my head, no matter how much I adjusted them.

I didn't use them, and the sounds/movements of people around me didn't bother me at all. However, I'm married with four children, so I'm used to studying in the middle of bedlam. One suggestion I would make is to try taking a practice test somewhere that isn't quiet. Not in the middle of a Stones concert, mind you, but some place where there is a degree of ambient noise. Do that once or twice and see how well you can tune out your surroundings. If you do fairly well, you probably won't need the headphones.

The sound of other people typing bugs the crap outta me, so I used the headphones. They are by no means comfortable, but better than nothing I guess. Ask your proctors if they have little in-ear foam earplugs instead. I know they had some at my test center.

I loved em.

At my testing center (only one in Vegas) I was in a room by myself with "sound proof" door and window not with the rest of the pack, for whatever reason. The proctors were on the other side of the wall from me and people were constantly going in and out to use the restroom etc, so I HAD to use the headphones. I had no problem with em, just feels a little weird taking em off after they've been on you for hours on end.

I was a testing room with around twenty students. I wore the headphones the whole time however they weren't anything special and didn't block out all noise; they weren't uncomfortable for me. In the first ten minutes I could hear someone sniffling through them.

I put them on just in case I got bothered by other people humming or hawing...

I didn't notice anything, my ears hurt a bit, but I adjusted once or twice, they were good to go. Use them if you get annoyed with people easily.
