Thread For Wait Time Between Complete App and Interview Invite

hey guys
I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a thread where we can all discuss how long it took/is taking between the time your application was complete and when the school contacted you for an interview.

It seems like a lot of us have completed apps and are just waiting to hear whether we will be interviewed, so in this thread we can report our experiences.

For instance.
I completed apps in mid-late september.
Applied to 15 schools
Have only heard from 2 schools so far (Lecom-B and AZCOM).

Lets hear from everyone else!

May I ask, what are your stats?

Also, what do you mean Rocky Vista wanted more molecular bio classes? I was under the impression that the fact that you don't have certain science courses at time of application won't keep you out of a school and that if they want or require you to take additional courses, they will accept you with the provision that you take these additional courses. Is this not right?

Im a bit concerned since I have not completed orgo yet. I taught myself orgo this summer so I could take the MCAT at the end of this past summer. I am now taking orgo I and will take orgo II next semester but obviously on my application I do not have any grades for orgo.

I think not having either orgo done yet will hurt a lot, unless s/he killed the BS section, but even then it will most likely still hurt. Orgo is a major part of how schools compare applicants, effectively 25% of the required pre-req's.

I completed my secondaries in early July through mid July.


Lecom-B = 4 weeks in between (in between the secondary being complete and the interview invite)

NSU = 5 weeks or so

Touro = 6 weeks or so



So, Lecom-B seems to be the fastest.

MightyMoose, you are right that it will hurt a lot at some schools. I think the other schools will obviously wait to pass judgment until at least the 1st orgo grades are in. It will surely be a factor at every school.

I was really hoping my lack of orgo would not hurt me that much.
I scored a 27 on the MCAT with teaching myself orgo (ps 10 v9 bs8). I know I could have done better had I taken orgo, but I really wanted to apply this cycle and the only way i could do that would be by taking the mcat and applying before having orgo. I have taken all other pre-recs and have maintained a 3.78 science gpa from completing these requirements.

So, am I really in a ton of trouble without having orgo??

Have you applied yet? If not, I honestly believe your best bet would be to wait until next year. That is not to say you won't get into medical school, rather it might not be a school you really want to attend. If you wait until next year, based on your MCAT and GPA (assuming decent EC's and secondary essays), you would probably be sitting on 5+ interview invites if you apply to ~10 DO schools, by this point in the season... Probably an acceptance or two as well. So, you can wait it out and enjoy your year, or apply and fight for those last few spots. Either way, it will all work out in the end. Good luck.

I know that I will be advised to be patient, but I am a 31 year old applicant who was qutie ill with a rare infectious disease for several YEARS during my late 20's and due to the fact that I lost so much crucial time, I deperately want to start this process.

I will be pretty destroyed if I dont get any interview/acceptances this cycle due to my not having completed orgo.
I didn't think it would be that big of an issue not having completed orgo since schools have all told me that people often apply before having completed requirements.

I have done very well in my other science courses (3.78 science gpa), so I am really hoping they will look past my lack of orgo and give me a shot.

I'm sure you'll do fine. You got your apps in fairly early and combined with your mcat, GPA, age, and story I'm sure you'll have some luck, but be sure to send out grade updates as soon as they are available. An A in ochem 1 would probably help you out quite a bit, because it will most likely ease the adcoms apprehension about your ochem grades.
