probably a stupid question, but i'm trying to balance out my list of schools and i'm just wondering what exactly determines top tier, middle tier, etc? is there a certain cut-off in rankings, or is it just a general classification?

Tiers are somewhat I guess subjective...a lot is based on research ranking from usnews. Top tier would be the top 20? but not 100% sure...maybe someone knows for sure. Bottom tier are those schools that foks "think" are maybe easier to get into due to them having lower gpa/mcat averages...
