Among tight junctions, desmosomes, and gap junctions, which one has the greatest strength ?
In EK book, it says " desmosomes are anchored to the cytoskeleton and ace stronger than tight junctions."
thanks a lot!
Gap junctions are just holes that connect the cytoplasm of neighboring cells. Desmosomes are specifically for preventing shearing of epithelium so they have to be pretty strong. Tight junctions are for blocking passage of molecules between cells so they don't have to be as strong.
