Hi,
I was wondering if getting a dog while in dental school would be a good idea. I will be beginning my third year on dental school very soon and have been going through a period of depression. I live in an apartment by myself and felt the dog would be a good companion and help with my depression. I am just worried if I will be gone too long during the day. For those of you with pets, do you find it hard to balance your time? Do you think getting a pet is a good idea?

I was planning on getting a pet as well since I'm entering 3rd year and I have a little more time than I did before. A pet would be fine provided you have the room for them and they're not too active. You don't want a big dog in a small apartment nor do you want an active dog since you won't have time to be taking them out for walks. What were you thinking of getting?

Yeah, I want a small dog. Something under 25 pounds since that is what I am use to. I was thinking of a puggle puppy but I decided against a puppy since they will take too much time to train. I was on petfinder.com and there is a very cute jack russell terrier, never had that kind of dog before. What kind were you thinking about getting?

Well my apartment doesn't allow pets so I'd have to get something I could keep in my apartment. I'm leaning more towards adopting a cat from a friend of mine. If I could have pet's I'd probably bring one of my dogs from back home with me (IE the pug in my avatar). 😉

Jack russells are great. Very smart and easy to train. I work quite a bit right now and I don't like to leave 1 dog home alone a lot so I got 2 of them. They're small so it's not much more work, and they do a good job entertaining each other when I'm too busy.
