I was hoping some of you recent graduates could give me some information. I was wondering what steps you took to receive your dental license after walking the stage at graduation. I know that all parts of boards need to be passed NDBEI/II, clinicals/CRDTS, etc... Knowing that what else do I need to do?

I have heard that sometimes it takes 6-8 weeks before your license is processed and you can begin practicing. I personally feel that this is a long lay off between school and the real world. Is there any way to speed up obtaining your license?

Is it possible to get your license and legally start practicing the Monday after graduation?

Should I plan on going on vacation for a few weeks after graduation while my license is being processed?

Any answers/opinions would be great!

Thanks

I would go for a loong vacation before you start working! License would take some time. Most insurance companies won't sign you on without a degree, license and NPI number anyway. (...and dental malpractice insurance!)

Yup, you will just have to wait (however long it takes, depending on the state). Also be aware that there is usually a rush of applications around graduation time so that slows things down a bit. Only after you get your license can you get malpractice insurance.... then you can start working.

It took 7-8 weeks for mine to come. I went on a long vacation out of the country. Never even thought about it until I got an email from my dad saying that I passed.

Has anyone received their license within 2-4 weeks of graduation?

Texas takes about 4-6 weeks to get everything completed. Two weeks to submit a background check and fingerprints, and once they've verified they received it, then you submit your application and it takes another two weeks.
