Say you have tickets for a Paul McCartney concert. They were booked 3 months in advance. Concert day draws near... and you realize you have to be at a surgery rotation.

I know there is know way in hell I'd actually go to the rotation and I'd make up some good excuse. Is that what med students do in these situations? Just curious.

oh and please spare me the lectures on my perceived work ethic.

You'd probably know you had a surgery rotation more than three months ahead of time, so you could ask about how frequent overnight call is. Worst case, you just go for it and hope you get a non-call day (75% chance).

Also, you likely make your call schedule for surgery on the first day, so you'd just tell your classmates you have to have that day off.

But lying about some excuse to miss a call day when it's unavoidable is shady. And if your classmates found out it was for Paul McCartney that's even worse. At least say it was for Tool or something.

But in all seriousness, if you can't avoid a call night, you have to sacrifice. It won't be your last time you sacrifice something you'd much rather be doing for a stay in the hospital.

After all, you're like..an adult...dude. /lecture.
