For all of you guys that had to quit a job prior to starting school, how much time did you take off before orientation?
I work a rotating shiftwork job currently and need to acclimate to a normal schedule before starting school, but also need to work/save as much as I can beforehand.
Anyone have any experience with this?

As much time as you need or want. Saving money is good and all but it's not really worth it, IMO. I worked until 2-3 weeks before school started and I still regret it.

I'm thinking of quitting a month before school starts in July. I guess I'm not a terribly exciting person because I'm bored out of mind sometimes even with a full-time job. I have "relaxed" all I could, but I'm probably going to add some travelling before school starts.

Put in my 1-month notice the day I got my first acceptance! Savings are all going to go poof in July/August anyways, what's another few $k's worth vs time which is about to be in very short supply?

My last day of work was June 27th -- I was also a rotating shift worker. Moved to my school city four days later (about a thousand mile move). Started school second week of August.

I probably could've done it in less time but I will totally admit the month of funemployment was awesome. Let me get to know my new city and campus, get all my utilities, vehicle things, and living red tape settled, shop for apartment stuff, and other bureaucratic whatnot out of the way and gave me about two weeks to do as much nothing as possible.

Once school hit I was very glad I'd given myself the pre-game downtime.
