Hi all...I've a general question that I'm sure many of us are wondering...for a program that we have heard nothing from but are very interested in (for me, this is Cambridge), should we be thinking about contacting them yet? Is it wise to let them know we're very interested? Or, if we haven't gotten a rejection, is it better to just keep on waiting?

Thanks

You can try, but I wouldn't push it more than one time contact or letter. Most programs have far more people wanting to get in than they have spots to provide them. Calling up a program director or coordinator and letting them know you want their program if the feeling is not strongly reciprocated can make you look worse in their eyes.

For example, if you were a PD, and someone called you a dozen times, after the 2nd or third time it will get annoying. For some it will get annoying even with the first call because several programs get some very anxious and desperate people.

Agree with previous poster. Calling to let them know of your interest will not help you get an interview.

I wouldn't call them, but I would email the program director and tell them specifically why you like the program and that you are hoping for an interview. I had very good luck with doing this last year.

Hey!
Our dean told us it was fair game to call a program after Nov. 1st and inquire about the status of your application. I have done this a couple times, and people are receptive to this and will give you an upfront answer. Either way, you'll know, which is better than guessing. I think if you call, they already know you are interested, so I don't think it needs to be repeated 🙂

Calling the administrator and asking him/her about the status of your application is reasonable and appropriate. Asking why you were not invited or asking that your application be reconsidered is not.

Time to let it go. You're good enough, you're smart enough and darn it... other programs have invited you.
