After the family meeting, my parents and I had serious thoughts on veterinary school and other options. I'm sure you guys are aware of the redundant hoopla saying that vet school is really competitive and etc, I completely understand. Having that drilled into your head constantly increases the apprehension which scares the heck out of me. For back up plans I've considered: genetic counseling and pathology assisting. As you can see, these have nothing to do with animals lol. I thought about becoming a veterinary technician as a back up, but it's not enough for independent living.

Just in case everything doesn't work out, what are your back up plans?

I've thought of a bunch (probably why I'm going into college undecided), which made me want to major in math since people always say math majors have great career outlooks  but atm, I've really got nothing. It's go hard or go home right now.

As someone who loves making plans and back-up plans, it ironically would be applying to dental school the next year... and the next... until TMDSAS blocks me from re-applying.

But if dental schools never existed, I'd take the path to become a podiatrist.

If podiatry schools never existed, I'd take the path to become a secondary teacher (I've considered Life Sciences and/or English).

If I were banned from teaching, I'd take the path to become an EM physician or plastic surgeon.

MD>DO>PHD>PHARM>OPTOMETRY>DENTISTRY>PODIATRY>death.

forgot PA somewhere in there. I would not prefer the title of being a assistant but then again that is just me. Don't hate.

I don't hate - I judge 😉

Lol I DO!

He helped me with math :3

wow. to see your back-up plans compared to mine (or lack of one is more like it..) I kiiinnnda feel like crap

Thanks!

And yea, surprisingly I've been in his classes every year except senior year (probably because I left school at 10:23am).

So Tolbert, what medical specialties are you interested in?

That's pretty awesome!!!!! Where are you going to college again?

I PM'ed you.

Someone told me some important people did a background check on me, and he was like "Apparently you go to Arizona St., and they know a lot of random stuff about you."

They got the wrong person, so I've been removing information about me from the internet (in case any other important people want to jump to conclusions again).

Looks like I am screwed. Good thing I am going to ASU. Hopefully where they don't check my online stuff.

As a strong believer in the "Plan B", I do have a couple of back up plans. Each of which will

If I do end up going to CC first, I will probably get my RN. That way, if my higher goal ended up not succeeding, I could still do something in the medical field.

I plan on majoring in either Public Health or Computer Programming. I'm leaning towards Public Health.

Outside of the Medical Field

If not Public Health, then I would also consider Computer/Application Programming. I have plenty of talent in Programming and could probably find a job with or without a degree in that field.

I've also been told I have a very "entrepreneurial" mind. I can buy something for little or no value and turn it into profit. I've never really considered a business career, but you're talking to the guy who could turn $35 into a vast amount of money......If I do say so myself.

Also I'm great with money (as stated above), So anything I can do with money would be good as well.

I also like the idea of cubicles

Just naming a few backups.

Since you're talented in programming, I'd say that'll be the most enjoyable major.

For some reason, Public Health sounds opposite to Business.

Thanks!

right now, cardiothoracic surgery and derm. Of course i'll probably change my mind though..

Dermatology sounds cool, the equipment they use are awesome.

It's funny. One of the best Dermatologists in my state told me while I was shadowing him that "Dermatology is either for those skin freaks or for the 4th year greedy Med Students"

Never really put much though into it but probably phd or optometry

I'm currently looking at some type of surgery or derma 😀

guess i'm a skin freak 😱

I could use a microdermabrasion before school starts?

I don't really think of a backup plan? I think more of alternatives.

Ph.D, engineering, and finance are the only other things i'm interested in.

yeah some days I can't even see more than a couple new posts.. not okay when you have nothing better to do..
In a way, almost every simple question has already been addressed, making new questions either a failure to the search function or personalized. No bueno.

Mine would go:

MD>DO>PhD>Podiatry>Dentistry>Military

I figure at least ONE of these has to accept me as long as I have a 3.0 GPA haha!
