Hey everybody,

Like a lot of people that I have found on this site, I seem to be on the waitlist train this cycle. I am currently sitting on 4 waitlists, half of which are MD/PhD, at all top 20 schools (if that is relevant at all). I'm not really sure what to do right now. I've sent out recent update/intent letters already too.

I know that I'm likely just going to have to be patient until May 15th, but I wanted some opinions on reapplying. When should I stop banking on the waitlists and get my application ready for next cycle. Should I wait until May, or should I have already started getting things ready to reapply now?

When I interviewed at UCSF, I remember the Dean congratulating us on making it that far, and that people who interview there should have no problem getting into a good school, and that we should pick the one the fits the best for us. sigh....

If you were interviewing for MD/Ph.D programs and received an interview at UCSF, I assume there is absolutely nothing wrong with your numbers. You're luckier than most re-applicants in that you don't need an MCAT retake or an SMP to get more competitive. With that said, "chance favors the prepared." I don't know how late you applied this year but if you were to start working now, you could have a revamped EC section, a great personal statement and a great research statement of purpose ready to go on the first day that AMCAS opens. By preparing now, you'd eliminate the chance of making or repeating mistakes that may have cost you an acceptance before.

The waitlist game could extend well into July/August. It's also not so far ahead of time before AMCAS opens for 2014 that you're wasting time by preparing a reapp. To prepare now would be the most prudent thing you could do. Good luck to you-I hope everything works out. You're on 4 waitlists so there's a good chance this discussion is moot.

It really depends on which waitlists you're on. Check last year's threads to see if there is a lot of movement come May.

I would be willing to wager that you'll get in somewhere. However, I do understand the anxiety you must be feeling, and there's nothing wrong with getting your ducks in a row just in case.

Good luck!
