How long does it take for ERAS to process LOR? I was in an impression that once the LOR author uploads them they are ready to submit thru ERAS. Am I wrong? One of my authors said they'll upload on Sept 15th. If they upload it that day, wouldn't I able to submit ERAS the same day? Anyone know what's the time frame.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can submit ERAS regardless of whether your LOR are in. Having LOR in ERAS becomes important when programs start determining if your file is complete and ready to be reviewed for an interview - and that being said, it's my impression that some schools may offer you an interview even before all LOR are in. Correct me if I'm wrong!

I understand that we can submit ERAS without LORS. But what I want to know is how long does it take ERAS to process LOR? I want to submit as soon as my LORS are uploaded so it would be a complete app and not have to update later.

Your plan is dumb. Just submit and add the LORs when available. Programs that want LORs before reviewing your app won't even see it if they filter on that. Others may invite you without LORs. I got 4 interview offers with 0-1 LORs available.

The answer to your question is immediately-ish.

For residency especially, I'd submit Sept 15 and figure the rest out later. There's (almost) no downside.

The answer to his question is multiple days, or at least it was 2 months ago for fellowship applications. ERAS acknowledges the submission of letters immediately, but takes a few days (up to a week) to "process" them, supposedly with a person looking at them to make sure there were no gross errors (i.e. that the letter is actually a letter and not a picture of the letter writers dong, it is written about the right person, etc). Until they are processed, they cannot be assigned to program.

I'm guessing ECFMG is doing the same thing with LOR's as ERAS is.
