As many of you already know, the 2011 AADSAS application begins June 3rd. I have yet to take the DAT but am considering my options. I want to have everything ready to go by June 3rd, however I will not have had taken my DAT by that time. When would you guys recommend I take the DAT in order to be fully considered an early applicant? Thanks in advance, good luck to all of you! 😀

It typically taking 3-4 weeks for your transcripts to be verified and before they can be sent off to the school. The service although prints 4-6 weeks probably to give them some leeway if they get flooded.

Assuming you complete everything on the 1st day the earliest they send it out is the 24th or the latest being July 8th.

DAT scores are sent directly to the school and take 1-2 weeks to verify after you take the exam.

Early or 1st round is about julyish. No one seems to really have down a solid date as to what the latest date.

BUT here's the important part. You should take the DAT when you are READY.

Being first in line is meaningless, if in the process of trying to be first you are unprepared and get a low DAT score.

High DAT >>>>>> Early Applicant w/Low DAT score

So in the mean time get your LOR lined up. Complete your Personal statement. Do those things as a break to studying for the DAT. Fill out the transcript request forms. Well most of it you'll have to wait for the match forms and address.

So you don't have to type in your dat scores into aadsas?

The scores are sent separate of aadsas?

if you read it before I edit, ignore it. They've changed things.

here's the changes for 2011 cycle

DAT Scores Imported Directly into ADEA AADSAS Application Starting with the 2011 ADEA AADSAS application, applicants no longer self-report DAT scores in the application. ADEA AADSAS will obtain your official DAT scores directly from the American Dental Association's Testing Services Center and will import them directly into your application. If you take the DAT after your ADEA AADSAS application has been sent to your designated dental schools, an updated application, reflecting your DAT scores will be forwarded to schools just as soon as the scores are received.

Thanks for posting the quote about the DAT entry change...I've been looking for that! 👍
So this could be great for all of us, we no longer have to wait 2-4 weeks for the official DAT report to be sent which delays the time for schools to review our apps {assuming this is what this change means, please correct me if I'm wrong}...
ex. applying June 3rd but taking the DAT in mid-august...schools will automatically receive our official DAT scores that day in mid-august and will therefore be able to immediately review us??

I'm in the same spot now with the DAT. I'm not taking it until I'm ready b/c I only want to take it one time. My school won't even send out all my recommendation letters until 7/17/10 anway so I'm making that my deadline to have the DAT finished. Good luck

Great information-- thank you very much. I think I will opt to take the DAT mid-July in order to allow myself ample time to prepare. Good luck to all of you and I hope this thread will answer questions that many have!
