I was planning to apply for the match next year, but I have checked a bunch of IM programs (~25) and most of them state they won't rank you if you don't have CS/CK in before they submit their ranking... I am at a conundrum right now and don't know what to do because I am scheduled to finish my last 3rd year rotation mid September...so I don't know whether or not I am going to have time to take both CK/CS and have them in before programs submit their ranking... Should I take CS first since I heard it takes longer to get your result? Or should forgo next year application for the match and apply in 2018?

Are you not allowed to take CS before you finish your third year courses? Also, you can easily take CK and have it ready for programs to review prior to ranking you, even if you wait to take it until October. It is not ideal, but it is better to apply with your step 2 scores coming in a little late than to apply a year later, when you are no longer a senior medical student.

Yes I am allowed to take CS before finishing 3rd year, but not sure if I will be able to study for it while going thru clerkship...

You dont need to study for CS...it is literally just being human while conducting a focused H and P. Third year rotations are all the preparation for CS you need as long as you are a competent medical student.

Spend a couple nights sciming the clinical scenarios and pointers in FA for cs and memorize a Ros pneumonic and you will do great on cs. Not much effort required, although it is stressful.

For ck try to be prepared, it's a hard test. End of October is fine, probably even alittle later.

Just do your best, don't delay a year. Beginning of 4th year is actually fairly stressful, but get through and enjoy the rest of the greatness that follows

You're definitely not the only one who will be taking these in the fall. Talk to your classmates. Talk to upperclassmen. Not sure why your first thought was to push everything back another year. I took CK in September and CS in November.

My school had a rule of thumb to do CK before Nov 1 and CS before Dec 1 in order to guarantee scores (and in an unfortunate event of a CK failure, allow time for a retake) prior to ROL submission (in February).

A lot of people in my class took CS quite early, like May-June. You just need to read FA.
