😕 Hi Everyone,

I am in the very first stages of laying out my AADSAS plan of attack (logistically speaking, not physically!🙂 ). My goal is to have my application in to AADSAS within a week of their earliest application-acceptance time. I really need experienced pre-dents to help me with this one. I think my confusion comes from the massively long turnaround time between me submitting it and them actually opening it and looking at it, plus the schools getting the info. Right now, I only need help figuring out how to submit my application at "x" time so that when it arrives, it is one of the first. What is "x"? My pre-dental advisor is not being very helpful with this--- she seems to think submitting in the middle of the summer is just as good. I have to keep explaining rolling admissions like a broken record, so I really need your help!

I have learned that AADSAS opens its doors for applications in mid-May 2007.
Question: Assuming I know what the application looks like and what it requires, and am about 90% ready, if I submit everything online within a week of May 15-ish, will I be one of the first applicants? Most importantly, since the application asks for physical things like transcripts and LOR's (which advisor is sending), when should I ask her to physically put them in the mail so they arrive by the time mid-May approaches? Should she just make a postal travel time estimate to aim for mid-May, or should she send them way early because it will take them several weeks to even look at them after they have arrived? How early? Also, if they are too early will AADSAS turn them away, or will they hang on to them until mid-May (like schools and DAT scores)? I just don't think their "we open in mid-May" and "apply early" is nearly descriptive enough to really help me a this point...my only goal is to have a complete application ASAP after the gates have opened. I can't be the only person who has thought about this. Please help! I really appreciate it. Thanks!

Go ahead and do it. They don't process anything until June 1, but everyone's app is queued in order of submission. Then make sure to mail out your LORs and transcripts without hesitation.

I really need some specifics here. Should I submit immediately as soon as it opens online? And send the LOR's, etc. many months in advance? I think thi sis what you were saying, but I want to be sure...

Sadly I still don't know what exactly goes to whom-- LOR's and transcripts to AADSAS or to schools? DAT to schools I'm pretty sure. Is there a link for a site showing what the AADSAS actually looks like, and exactly what they want? Or do I have to just pretend to be a 2006 applicant and pay now for a practive application? I am trying to be ready to give them the info they need before they open up their doors for 2007, so whatever practice I can get is great... Thanks!!

You can make an account for the 2006 cycle and practice with it, just don't submit it. LORs and transcripts go to AADSAS (although some schools will tell you if/when to send additional transcripts). And if it makes you feel better, submit the 2007 cycle app right after it's available. Like I said before, it won't be processed until June 1. Processing should take about a month before they send it out if it's all completed, so I would say to mail the LORs and transcripts sometime around June 1.

Thank you! You're so helpful!

Wait! You need to remember that in order for you LORs and transcript to be matched with your account on AADSAS you need an AADSAS ID number. If you get that # on the 15th and fill in everthing that day and submit your application, it will be complete when they receive your LORs with that number. I actually made an account with the pervious cycle so I could get an idea of how to use the website and filled in all the fields. When the 2006 AADSAS opened, all I had to do was copy/paste. Hope that helps 🙂

This is what you need to do:

1. In March/Early April 2007: Contact your professors/dentists about letters of recommendation. Ask them to complete these letters by April 30th. Ask for three copies, each to be placed in a separate sealed envelope. Have them sign their name across the flap. (It is important to have extra copies in case our friends at AADSAS lose the ones you send them)

Also, at this time, you should solidify your personal statement.

2. May 15, 2007: Create your AADSAS account. Print the letter of recommendation matching forms, paperclip these forms to one copy of the corresponding LOR already in your possession. Place all of these LORs in one big envelope and send to AADSAS (make sure you send them to the correct address.) It is a good idea to send it USPS Priority with signature confirmation.

Also, print out the transcript matching forms, take these to your school registrar and order transcripts. Be sure to hold the transcripts for Spring Semester grades. (Be sure to send these to the correct address -- this address will be different than the LOR address).

3. May 15, 2007 - May 22, 2007: Finish completing your application online; print everything out and have multiple people check it for grammar problems. Submit your application.

4. May 23, 2007 - June 1, 2007: Complete secondaries and send checks and pictures to the schools that want these items at the same time as your AADSAS application.

5. June 2, 2007 - December 1, 2007: Stress out, email schools to assure your application is complete, post on SDN, complete additional secondaries, go on interviews, etc., and hopefully get accepted!

Good Luck!

I second this. Not that you'll be prevented an acceptance if you wait until June 1st to submit, but you never know if an error will be made in processing and slow you all down. It takes alot of time to process everything. My application process thus far has been flawless with nothing lost, I feel real lucky!

NM, birdchk (or whatever the poster's name was) did a far better job of explaining everything while I was writing my stupid comment.

If you follow those recommendations you will be ahead of a majority of us....and most of us are way to anal about this whole process.

good luck!! learning about it now is the best way of preparing to apply I'd say!! just don't stress about it now...you'll have plenty of time to stress about it 1 year from now

Don't get too hung up on getting it out immediately after the application is available. You'll be prone to mistakes and it'll literally look like you didn't spend much time on it and just wanted to get it out.

Regardless, the main thing I want to stress is to submit your application when you feel confident with it (late May, early June). As soon as your semester grades are established from your university, THEN send them to AADSAS. I'd go ahead and send your DAT scores and LOR (if you don't want AADSAS dealing with them), absolutely as soon as possible. That's all I've got. It looks like you've got some great tips already. And realize that the sooner you send it in, the longer the "stress" period. Realize it's out of your hands, and as much as it pains some of us, just try and sit back and relax.
