As you know, many applicants have already taken the OAT and submitted their apps for the current application year. I on the other hand am still taking Physics 2, Bio 2, and Orgo 1 this semester. I'm starting my Kaplan class this Saturday, and plan on taking the OAT in late December or early January.

Would it make any sense to try and get my applications in sooner rather than later, before I complete these three courses? That would mean a lot of pre-reqs won't yet be on my transcript (these 3 plus biochem and microbio as well). Is there any chance a school would actually invite me to interview at this stage?

Most people are still taking pre-reqs when they apply. It's not a big deal.

I thought I'd read about someone getting rejected because they still had too many unfinished prereqs when they applied. That kind of scares me into wanting to wait.

Apply now. You can put on Optomcas what ur taking now, and also when u plan on taking the OAT. Then e-mail the school's you are interested in and let them know again, and hopefully they will work with you. Some schools will, and some won't. I guess it just depends on the size of the class, and how many people already got accepted.

I also had a few schools say well just email us occasionally any new test grades, etc. so that they know how you are doing, and you can kind of project your final grade from that. You want to build rapport with the school, and this is a good way of doing so.

Moral of story. The earlier you apply the better.

Please don't wait to apply. Most optometry school are on a rolling admissions basis, which is first come first serve. The optometry schools only look at the current grades, and you will have an opportunity to update your grades in OptomCAS in January.

You will not get rejected just because you are still taking courses.

I am taking my final English course right now, and I was just offered an interview.

They only require you have all pre-reqs completed before you enter in the fall.
