Hey everyone I wanted to ask on some advice for this upcoming sem.

Due to financial reasons, I have to commute this year. I didn't really want to but I have no choice and will save money. So how much harder will it be for me to get involved/ do extracurriculars? I am currently volunteering in a hospital once a week and will continue to do that. But I do want to get started on doing some activities too.

I also want to try to fit in work (not for personal reasons but to help pay off loans). Do you guys think I can manage volunteering, extracurriculars, and working (at least sat and sunday) with this schedule? :

Schedule:
1) Orgo 2 (I took orgo over summer) 3 cred
2) Orgo 1 lab- 1 credit
3) Genetics-3 credit
4) Calc 2- 3 credit
5) social psych- 3 credit
6) sociology- 3 credit

Total: 16

On mondays I get out at 215, tue-thur I get out at 11:15, and friday at 1:15.

I don't want my grades to get affected because I am doing good so far with a cGPA of 3.9.

Any suggestions/ help would be greatly appreciated!

this is not a duplicate thread. Double check and read please.

If you look and read closely, you can see that I copied my schedule and that the threads are DIFFERENT.

* If you are using public transportation, try to get your books in PDF (or get the book binding cut at Kinko's for $1 and scan it yourself--ask me about doing that via PM) and put the books on your phone, tablet, and PC so you can read on the go. I recommend doing this anyways because you can save time by reading your books or notes in line or waiting.

* Digitize your notes, if you have a tablet. I use an iPad, with a Lifeproof Nuud case, which has a large and thick bezel (rim) so I can rest my palm on the bezel. This makes writing less awkward. I also use a Pogo Connect stylus. The app I use is Notability, which I can upload my notes to the cloud via Dropbox, so I can access my notes anywhere I am, such as in line or waiting, like my textbooks. In addition, you can record the audio as you take notes with Notability. Make sure to practice taking notes on a tablet before you whip the device out in lecture.

* Keep all lecture notes (powerpoints), books, handwritten notes, on the cloud (i.e. Dropbox) for instant access via smartphone, tablet, and laptop.

* Always carry the chargers for your electronics with you. You never know when you are going to have a late night. Also, I carry an power strip in my backpack.

* Invest in a good backpack that stores your stuff. But, try to cut back on dead weight or unnecessary weight such as from textbooks.

* Set aside plenty of time in your schedule for commuting. Make sure to use a schedule and follow the schedule as best as possible.

* If you need to spend a late night on campus to study, make plans ahead of time. There are (public) places to sleep (e.g. couches with rooms that you can turn the lights off) at the engineering and architecture buildings at my school. For obvious (hygienic) reasons take showers at the gym.

* Invest in a locker or some sort of storage area with 24/7 access at your school that is cheap (< $100) (or even your car) so you can store an extra change of clothes, food, water bottles, towels, shampoo, other toiletries.
