i know it's that time of year again where applicants begin interviewing and choosing which school to attend. aside from the general stuff, such as location, faculty, nbeo passing rate, student life, clinic, when you start seeing patients, etc etc, there are other factors that should be looked into.

1. look carefully into the curriculum- see what type of classes are offered and if it matches your interests.

2. find out how often exams are administered. and what type of exams the students take such as multiple choice, short answer, etc. do they offer a nbeo review course.

3. find out the type of exam that you have to pass in order to move on with the curriculum. at scco, there's a proficiency that you have to pass in order for you to move on. there's something called the 12 stations that is administered during the 3rd year and that basically tests you on everything you've learned. if you pass that, you can go on with the program. otherwise, you are held back a quarter.

4. see how the students are graded- on a curve? straight scale?

5. find out if a senior project is required. at scco, before we graduate, we have to complete some type of research.

6. ask what types of pathology is seen in the clinic. i guess this goes along with location.

7. check out if and where they offer rotation sites. that goes along with what kind of experience you'll get.

8. and lastly, during the interview, talk to as many current students as possible. see how they are liking it so far. and i suggest talking with 2nd and 3rd years. they've experience a lot more than 1st years.

good luck to everyone interviewing and congrats on acceptances!
