Tips for different styles of testing?

Okay so we just began taking our quizzes via an electronic clicker system. Questions are displayed, we have a remote clicker and 70 seconds to answer. So far, all quizzes have been written/computer based (MCAT style with the ability to highlight/markthrough), but now course directors rather implement this style.

I am horrible at them. I have averaged ~94+ on each Phys test, but using this quiz method, I was 3/6 today (and this wasn't from simply being behind). While going over them, it's obvious what I did wrong each time. I would unknowingly omit entire words from the question that were key. My confidence is completely shaken.

I'm use to being able to mark questions (key phrases, mark out choices, etc on the computer interface) and pace myself at around 30-40 seconds per question. Doing this new method, I'm completely out of my style.

I e-mailed the professor about providing hard copies, but letting our answers register via the electronic system, but the response was 'too expensive' (hell, I'll pay the 10$ for 170 hard copies per quiz. There's only 5....)

Any suggestions how to adapt my test-taking strategy to this?

Sit up front. Ask if you can have scratch paper that is blank and use it to write out the letter choices and physically strike out wrong answers.

This sounds ridiculous to me. If you continue to have a problem, I would escalate the question to your student council or someone in your academic affairs office. There's too much shame and ridiculous competitiveness in MS to create reasons to have additional anxiety. And public testing in this manner is rife with possible complications. I like the scratch paper suggestion, but there's no reason you should have to freak out.

Honestly, just deal with it. Maybe it's a skill that could be useful if you learn to do it.
