So I have my first interview tomorrow (so far my only one) and I'm excited but kind of nervous. The last time anyone interviewed me for something this important was for getting into private school in 9th grade over 7 years ago. Any general tips on what to do/not to do and maybe how to prepare? Also, there is a tour of the school followed by a lunch with students and faculty. After all that is the interview. Is it normal to wear my interview clothes for the entire day?

Thanks!

Find the school there, and read the interview feedback. It'll give you an idea of what it'll be like, and what kind of questions they'll ask you. Otherwise, just try to relax and enjoy yourself. You've made it this far, they like you!

Yes.

Were you planning on changing out of your suit right after interviewing?!?!? Heck, I wore my suit from the morning of the interview until after the flight home.

Anyways, tours are a pretty standard thing. So you will probably happen.

As has been said, check your school on the link above and see what questions have been asked. Also research the school and come up with a bunch of reasons why the school is a good fit for you. Read the mission statement too to try to incorporate it during your interview.

Finally, just rehearse some answers aloud to make sure they sound good. However, do not memorize anything because it comes off as sounding like a robot.

Wow didn't even know that list existed! Thanks for the advice. Now I'm even more nervous because I see how many questions are asked about healthcare and specific issues surrounding it. I don't know jack about what's going on in healthcare reform, much less the world in general. Guess I have some bedtime reading to do now...

You want to be a doctor but you have no idea what's going on with the healthcare system?

Boy, are you in for a nasty shock.

Well I have a general idea of what is going on but nothing that I could discuss intelligently about. Any suggestions on good articles or websites that are noob-friendly on US healthcare?

the kaiser family foundation has some videos and fact sheets about health care reform in general.

Re-read your application. My first one I forgot about one of my minor ECs and got caught on it. 🙁

1. Read this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/06/24/11-facts-about-the-affordable-care-act/

2. Firm handshake, smile, eye contact. Take a breath before you answer questions.

3. I agree with an above poster: reread your application and secondaries.

4. Stand in front of your mirror and practice answering common interview questions, especially "Why do you want to be a doctor?"

5. Be on your absolute best behavior from the minute you get out of your car on the campus. You never know who's watching you. (My mom once worked for a company where they would put a piece of trash right in the exterior doorway, next to a trashcan, and make a note of who stopped to throw it away and who stepped right over it.)

Good luck! :luck:

Also be really really nice to all the administrative assistants. My mom worked on a residency admissions committee and during the rank meeting this one applicant was stellar in interviews, essay, and test scores, but the secretary mentioned how dismissive the applicant was of her (and how the applicant's demeanor completely changed when the interviewer stepped out of his office). This applicant who was originally going to be ranked very highly ended up at the bottom of the list.
