What are some tips/advice for students entering dental school that are ultimately interested in a residency (general or a specialist-pediatrics preferably)? Should we focus on doing research, volunteering, LORs? What if you’re at a school with no specialities?

yes all of the above. shadow outside specialties to see if you would like them. then as you encounter clinic faculty in various specialties start chatting them up if you are interested in that specialty.
