Hi, guys!

Yes, I have read others talking about techniques they use...I am following kaplan's method right now..

But being a slow reader, I still don't know how to attack the RC section.

Would you like to share any tips?

Some skills might work for me..who knows?

Thanks!!🙂 :luck:

I will give you my strategy and I scored a 21 on the DAT.

What I did was to read the first question and start skimming the passage for the answer. If it was an inference question that required knowledge of the whole passage I would skip that question. By the time I found 3-4 of the answers I would have pretty much gone through the whole passage a few times and I would be able to find the answers much quicker. At the end I would go back through and answer all of the ones I skipped that ask the "tone of the author" and questions of that nature.

By doing this I finished with about 10 minutes left. Im not sure if this will work for everyone but it helped me quite a bit. Well good luck.

yup, I agree with the uppersaid. Kaplan may be great, but am yet to find out a single person that actually uses their RC technique. I mean, reading AND writing up a "map" does not humanly seem to be a good technique on a TIMED test. Also, if you haven't already noticed, the first passage is usually the hardest. I often found myself spending 25 min on just it, and barely having enough time to finish the rest (although I did).
I'm taking my DAT June 5 and I am planning on relying solely on repetative practice at skimming text from the screen, because you read slower than you would off paper.

my $2.00 with 99% overhead.

Like you Lily, I have a hard time with the RC section. I have tried the Kaplan strategy and I ALWAYS run into a time crunch. Reading the entire passage - even if you are just quickly skimming - while simulatenously making an outline is pretty impossible.

Today, I tried just answering the questions right off the bat without reading at all, and I scored a 46/50 on a Topscore RC test...and I had about 8 minutes to spare.

I have been reading a lot of other RC threads, and it seems that a lot of people are having fairly good success (i.e. 19s and above) by just reading questions and searching for answers (or some modification of that strategy). Doesn't seem to me like many people actually read the passages.

I take the DAT on the 18th; hopefully the above said strategy will work on the actual test (as most people have said)
