Tips for reviewing Micro/Pharm

Two of my weakest subjects are Micro and Pharm. Conceptual ideas about bugs and drugs I have no problem with (e.g. pathologic mechanisms, mechanisms of action), but I'm having some difficulties remembering some of the specifics about them (specific adverse effects, toxins). Is this stuff just rote memorization? Can anyone give some tips about how to enhance memory/retention of this suff?

I like doing practice questions on them to help me remember the pertainent ones. If I see it over and over again I tend to remember it. I also try to stick it in daily conversation with friends (dork I know) but it helps if you force yourself to say it and then make cxn's.

Mnemonics are also my best friends.
