I'm finishing up my applications to several summer research programs, including sloan-kettering, Harvard stem cell, Johns Hopkins SIP, NIH, Leadership Alliance, and MD Anderson. My first choice would be sloan-kettering since the PI I work for now and throughout all of high school is on the admissions board for the program.

Unfortunately, I'm a freshman so that means that I don't get much attention in the first place. Do you guys have any tips so that I can hopefully have a chance at some of these programs? I know that they care more about the personal statement than extra curricular activities? What else do I need to know?

Thanks!

It just sucks that many programs don't take freshman at all. And the ones that do prefer upperclassmen.

Unfortunately that's how the game goes. I'd also check with your institution if any PIs are taking summer students.

...The other option would be relaxing and enjoying your (most likely last, relatively free) summer.
