Here's a helpful article of great tips when approaching the personal statement. It includes a link to a paper written by two medical school admissions deans on what medical schools are looking for in applicants. VERY helpful if you're preparing your application and personal statement, and advice straight from the top:

If you have any other helpful tips that might be useful to others who are applying, please reply to this post!

Alternatively, if you have any questions about the process that you'd like to ask those who've already gone through it, reply with those as well!

Just write about taking care of your sick tamagotchis as a child. Bam. Auto-acceptance.

I think mine is still alive. I'm the ultimate patient care expert.

Wow... that was a major flashback.

What about furby's? Do those evil looking troll like beak sucking monsters count?

absolutely not.

My brother used to hide mine in my bed so when I started getting ready to go to sleep it would start talking and i'd just about poop myself

EFFIN GENIUS!!!! Hahahaha

They are creepy little things aren't they??? What else was big that year? or the year following?

Tickle me Elmo!

long-term patient care, eh? so i take it you're thinking about primary care then?

Also some recent thing was like Webkinz or whatever you call it. Those things you have to take care of on the internet.

How the **** did we go from an actual useful topic to talking about this??

haha because it clearly demonstrates a commitment to bettering the standard of life of another creature. perfect PS material X)

Glad you found it helpful! As for the digital pets, I now see why I am going for med school and not my brother; he used to intentionally starve it, then hide it in the back of the couch so that it would meow endlessly until the battery (or it) died.

Did he bury it? You know kids that torture little animals are destined to be serial killers... or surgeons.

Actually, he majored in psychology and is currently living among the homeless population of Denver to give them someone to talk to and show them they are loved...

In other words, he's doing his absolute best to ignore those inner cravings...

Hahaha, just kidding, but he is actually doing that! Right now he's on day three of a two-month commitment. Crazy stuff...

Good call. I'm enjoying this though; it's kind of fun to think that this conversation has occurred between a group of future physician colleagues...

5th season was total crap. I was so disappointed.

The show died when someone else died.

It's great because almost every episode someone dies.

I just wish Ms. Pardon my boobs didn't die.
