Hey SDNers,

I am a fairly new member and I sure am glad I joined. This forum is VERY helpful not to mention very encouraging. I recently purchased Destroyer and my test is in about a month (I'm retaking it!). I would appreciate any helpful tips on how I should study destroyer.

My original Stats on DAT

AA18
TS19
Bio19
Chem18
GChem18
RC20
PAT16
QR14😡

GPA:3.21 BCP 3.18
I am primarily retaking to improve my QR and PAT. Any tips on how I can improve other than study study study! The PAT was aweful on the real thing.
Anyway, any help given is much appreciated!

i'd like to know too being that i just bought it and my test is in 9 days. but for you my friend, i'd start with the QR. since there's no PAT on the destroyer i would suggest getting achiever or at the very least kaplan/topscore. the more familiar you are with things, the more confident you'll get.

1) go through it once (you can go through it in 2 or 3 days if your really dedicated), highlight important concepts in the solutions to the answers, UNDERSTAND the explanations.

2) call up dr. romano, ask for clarification on any concepts you're rusty on

3) go through all the problems you got wrong again, and before answering, explain to yourself why all the other answers choices are wrong

4) read through the explanations you highlighted in the solutions to the problems

by that point you'll have gone through the whole thing twice (technically 3 times since you read through the solutions again) and have talked to dr. romano. You should be solid at that point...

and its not impossible. i got my book 5 days before the test and it was more than enough time to go through it twice

best of luck

Yeah, I just kept going through it over and over, I would mark off problems I got wrong, then read the explanation to see why, then I would come back to it in a few days and try again.. If there was anything I really didnt understand, i'd build up a few questions and call Dr. Romano for help and he would go over them with me, which was extremely helpful... Also, for BIO, I made cue cards of EVERY question in destroyer (yes, all 190+ questions) just rewriting them helped me to memorize them... I got a 25 in bio this time around, so it worked apparently... Just keep chipping away at the questions in there, it may seem difficult, but it really is so helpful for the real DAT...

Thanks You Guys! Im almost done with it the first time around and I must say it is really helpful! Dr. Romano covers every concept and then some. I just really want to do well this time around because I have invested so much time and money into dental school already. I just need to really improve QR and PAT. Any suggestions? Thanks for all the great advice!

I personally found achiever to be the best study tool, but it all comes down to repetition. I would say for QR you definately want to practice every problem you can get a hold of from topscore, achiever, and kaplan. As for PAT I think that achiver prepared me best! Sorry, I didn't use Destroyer so I'm not sure how helpful my post will really be, just trying to help.

Thanks! Yeah Im studying off of achiever and topscore as well as kaplan for QR. I just hope I dont get another exam with like 90% word problems!
