Our clinic has switched to having almost all patient visits remotely in the context of the whole COVID thing. We'll eventually have voice-and-video but for now just telephone--which I'm more interested to hear about (video seems relatively the same as in person.)

If you have any resources regarding providing good therapy (CBT, dynamic) by phone, I'd really appreciate it. Even if it's just "I've done this for a while and here's what's worked for me."

Thanks!

Well, I now have my first few 50-minute therapy appointments by-phone under my belt. I found that it was easier to lose my concentration and also I was more hesitant to challenge my patients, in part related to the increased difficulty interrupting and conveying non-judgement by phone. Easier to get stuck in cycles of intellectualization and other emotion-avoidant defenses when you can't see the person to pick up on whatever underlying non-verbal displays of affect break through. But otherwise not "as bad" or difficult as I though it would be.
