I've recently become interested in applying to DO schools. So far I've learned that it's preferred to have experience shadowing a DO and getting a LOR from them, and that DO schools take the higher of two grades if you retook a course. Any other things I should know?

What do DO adcoms prefer to see that are different from MD adcoms, or are they mostly the same? Thanks 🙂

You should know what osteopathic medicine is and how it differs from allopathic medicine historically, practically, and anectodally.

Have a good answer to "Why osteopathy?" Most of your interviews will likely focus on this question. You should have exposure to the field of osteopathy (shadowing or patient exposure, etc.) and be able to articulate why you're choosing DO instead of MD.

Other than that, the interview/application process is pretty similar.

That's got to be one of the hardest questions I had in my interview season, and if I'm being honest I still don't see a difference. Sure, when AT Still was still digging up native americans to practice anatomy there was a definite difference, but since then......? The holistic answer seems ridiculous on its face. What did you guys say?

Plenty of threads around about this but yes, you're not alone.
