Do any of you medical students get tired of hearing and reading about the same area of study all the time? I'm sure you went in with an eager interest, but does it wear you down, become boring, or strike you something like "well, I've really learned more about this than I ever cared to?"

No, not yet, never, and can't conceivably consider it.

Some of it. But some stuff just gets more interesting as you go along.

I will say that, even after working in the ER back home for a while, now that I've got a year of med school under my belt, working at the ER here is a whole new world. I understand a few things, different tests they do, pathology on imaging studies, etc., and when you see it in practice, it can be kind of fun.

I think it depends on the type of person you are. In undergrad, lots of things were boring because it was just a class I was taking that had no real significance to anything in my life. Turkish-German Lit, German Feminist Lit, etc....while I got to read some interesting things, was just a grind after a while. Granted, I'm only 4 weeks in, but not a day has gone by where this material hasn't solidified into a greater understanding of something. Now, is sitting there and memorizing anatomy or questions fun? Not really, but seeing how that knowledge is applied, reading things and suddenly understanding and constantly expanding my knowledge base for things I am much more likely to know IS pretty cool.

I'm sure there will be courses I despise but I'll probably find a way to have things make sense there too.

It comes and goes. Obviously you're not going to love everything but most of it is interesting and there's enough variety to make it fun. Still, I remember about a month into surgery I had gotten enough of breast cancer to satisfy me for life. It's time for us to cure this one now, I'm over it. Guess it's another reason I shouldn't become a surgeon.

Breast cancer will never be cured.

It will mutate and they'll be screwed all over again.

Yes well, I prefer to believe it will be cured :xf: It helps with the sanity and all
