Just wondering if anyone else is tired of working while waiting for med school to start. I am so tired of working and yet I have about 7 or 8 more months. I do research at the school i'm going to next fall. I hate working with rats! I have done about 20 westerns this week, okay enough griping. I just can't wait to start school again. How about all of you?

tho i am highly excited and anxious at the prospect of starting school next fall....

im not really sick of my job since it helps me eat haha.

but then again i dont have to do westerns or work with rats. hang in there poof. its thanksgiving and chrismtas and new years soon. you'll get some days off to rejuvenate yourself.;🙂

I am also can't wait to get into a medical program. I have been working at my job going on 2yrs and I am borderline depression right now. All I need is an acceptance because that will give me some hope/something to look forward to. But hopefully in due time things will work out.

It does help alot to get accepted. I interviewed on 8/22 and found out I got in about a month later. And yeah, it really is cool to know you won't be doing this crappy work forever. my boss is a real a$$ and I have noticed since I got in I have stood up to he/she more and I'm getting treated with much more respect. But still the waiting! My last day is july 1 2004 and orientation starts July 30th! Good luck!

Cheesypoofs, I feel your pain. I had a week this summer where I did over 200 western blots (wow, you might be thinking, you must have done nothing else that week, including eat or sleep. That is pretty accurate)... I am tired of being a lab tech, and I haven't even been working a year. Getting an acceptance made it a lot better... The thing is that the hours at my job suck enough that it's not even like I get to use my free time to do all of those fun things I won't have time for soon.
On the other hand, my plan is to take about 6 months off before school starts, move home and work less than full time at not so serious jobs and have fun, and I do have a 2 week vacation coming up in December... so for me, the end is in sight!

Going on interviews has made me really want to be in med school. Although I studied bio in undergrad, I'm really looking to the clinical years.

I'm working (not in bench research), and while my job is interesting and laid-back, the 9-6 desk-jockey thing isn't my style.

On the upside, not having much to worry about after work or on the weekends is great. Of course, that time gets spent on med school stuff, with frantic partying fit and chill time inbetween.

I plan on taking two months off before school to travel. Although now I'm starting to wonder whether I'll be too anxious about med school to really kick back and enjoy.

As you can tell, I have trouble relaxing for too long 😱 I've resorted to making odd drawings in MS Paint during slow moments at work.

Amen jlee. Whenever I get sick of staring at the computer and fighting carpal tunnel in my cube, I remind myself that I'm lucky enough to have 1) a regular paycheck and 2) health insurance. I don't really get much of a holiday break since I used up my sick/vacation days for interviews, but I'm dreaming of next summer before matriculating... Hang in there. Thxgiving is coming up! If your lab/office doesn't have plans already, you can see if your coworkers are interested in a holiday potluck. Everyone gets bored at work at some point; that's why it's work. Commiseration is key. 🙂

i feel you all... i have a boring desk job. i have been at it for 1.5 years. i don't hate it, but i will be glad to be done with it. sometimes i get this sense of terror like... oh god, what if i don't get in and have to stay here another year? but hopefully i won't have to worry about that. i am hoping to quit in the early summer and spend a couple months relaxing and maybe doing some freelance work to pay the bills. and hopefully going to costa rica for a week or two...

If it seems so tough to get into medical school. Why do people rag on the combined 6, 7, and 8yr BS/MD programs so much. They let you skip all this crap and give you a guaranteed seat. Why wouldn't you choose a bs/md program over other schools like Cornell and ivies!

So, I am not the only one. Going to school by day and working by night, waiting to see whether or not if I get into med school. I just want to know! Plus, I will be glad to just be going to school and not both. I feel like my loyalties are divided. I want to concentrate on school and school only!!

I feel you all on the 9-5 thing....you guys are lucky in many respects...at least ya got in!!! I am waiting around without a single interview or acceptance as of yet....

oh man..i feel u guys..
i love my job..but i could only do this for 1 yr..
still have no interviews yet...

Well me personally, I work as a peer educator at my school's Wellness center. The pay is not that good. But it gives me some extra money. I have one more semester to do at school and then I have to find work full time before I start Med School in the Fall of 2004.
