I plan on transferring to UC Davis (through the help of TAG), but my only issue was my major.

I want to major in English, and still do my pre-med requirements (obviously), because I heard that English majors preform very well on the verbal reasoning skills part of the MCAT's and usually get a good overall score, also English majors usually have a little less of a workload which will give me time to put more effort into my science GPA. But, UCD also has a neurobiology, physiology and behavior major, which I'm also interested in. And I realize a lot of it's major requirements are also pre-med requirements, which is great, but I'm afraid that I may be too overwhelmed with the workload and my GPA will be lowered. Which leaves me with two questions; will the latter major better prepare me for med school? And overall, which major do you suggest would be the better one to apply for?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

These are immature reasons to pursue a major! This is the only opportunity where you get to study whatever you want and absorb knowledge with a passion because the resources are laid out for you. So take advantage of that! Besides the pre-reqs, do what you see yourself really enjoying for what it's worth, and not how it will help you on the MCAT or Med School.

If you really love what you'll be studying, the gpa should follow.

But the thing is, I honestly love both majors; I could study both of them for hours and hours. Literature is something that gets my heart racing, while neurobiology and physiology is something that never ceases to amaze me.

well if you don't get into medical school, what would you rather have to open doors for other programs?

Tough question. Well if suicide doesn't work out, then I guess I would want to stick with NPB, and try to go into research.

Thank you so much!

If you like English..or have a good reading habit, you should do well in the verbal section of the MCAT regardless of your major. It is more of a reading habit that gets you the high verbal score rather than majoring in English (IMO).

But I can sense your passion for English and Science. If I were you, I will first aim high..meaning aim for the double major. And later, if it is too much for you, you can change your plan accordingly.

But in terms of modifying your plan, you should do it every first couple weeks of each semester. So you can drop the classes without hurting your grades. So when registering for the classes, register or audit all the classes you want to take or the classes that will get you the double degree, then quickly decide!!

And even though you say you have a passion to major in all of those, you might change your mind due to a professor who might give you a hard time in one of the courses etc.

So plan is simple, aim high and work your way down...and decide quick. And yes, you might end up majoring in one thing and minoring in the other. Or you might end up majoring in only one thing. But at least, you wont regret at the end, because you have explored all the chances.

These are all my personal opinion and I have not gotten into a med school.
And to discredit myself even more, I did not double major, got a 9 in verbal, suck at english, and did not major in English.

Good luck!

I agree that in your situation you should explore the possibility of a double major, or major/minor combo. Or, you could take another course or two from both departments and decide in a year, if that's feasible. Regardless, enjoy your time at uni.
