I want Baylor so bad! But hopefully by April something might become available....we just never know. Gosh this wait is killing me. I interviewed all three places but no luck getting accepted anywhere...it really sucks.

Join the club. But keep your chin up. IDK I'm so tired of being depressed and mopey. I'm starting to get a little bit optimistic which is so weird of me! But I'm also being realistic and I think the DAT studying is going to begin soon lol

According to the facebook group, 47 people have joined already. I know facebook is not the best source, but this gives you a rough estimate since many people have a facebook. This estimate also correlates with a previous post stating that Dr. P said they have about 50 people that have paid deposits already.

Hang in there, and stay positive 👍

If Houston is your #1 school, they are still sending acceptances unlike Baylor which has stopped until April (I believe).

That's actually not entirely accurate. The class so far is more like 37-40 people because there are quite a bit of 1st year DDS students that joined that group.

+1

I loved Houston! Seems like such an awesome environment to go to school in!

It really did! I feel like a little kid whose older sibling is waving a cookie at. I hope Houston is a nice older sibling who quits taunting me and gives me the dang cookie! I want the cookie. lol

They haven't even showed me the cookie yet. Boo 🙁 Lol.

Thank goodness!

At least we still have a glimpse of hope. I am definitely rooting for all of us who have yet to hear back from any of the schools.

I will keep my fingers crossed for those who have not heard either. :xf:

I know several spots are going to open in San Antonio since some of my friends accepted there in January but have decided to go Houston after hearing from them recently. They are just waiting for their checks to clear at Houston, then withdrawing from SA.

not to dissuade anyone from Houston, but because it potentially useful information, i was just informed that 23 or almost 1/3rd of their 4th year class failed the boards. i'll double check with some friends, but can anyone else confirm?

That's BS.

So it is safe for you take Houston off your list.

i really don't know too much about the boards, or avg pass/fail rate at all. if it's bad, let ME know. i would have gone to Houston for overall convenience, but I'm a computer engineering tech major and it seemed San Antonio offered a bit more for someone like me, so i've pretty much had it crossed off for some time. but like i said, just relaying info.

yep. confirmed. all 3 of my contacts said about 20-23 people didn't pass their boards. but, from what everyone was saying, the boards were much harder this year for some reason. does anyone know anybody at San Antonio that may have an idea what their pass/fail rate was this year?

At my Baylor interview Dr. Miller explained how the Boards have changed. In the past you can do poorly on one section and do well on another and still average a passing grade. Now you must pass all sections to "pass" the boards.

I may be wrong, but that's how I understood it.

So, this may account for a lower pass rate for not only UTH but all dental schools.

that sounds more reasonable. i figured it wouldn't make sense for only Houston's rate to go from 5 to 20 something people in one year, and then be able to blame it on the teaching or students altogether.

I don't know about 23, but I do know it is at least 21. Now, I cannot speak for Baylor and SA, but the failure rate for the NBDE Part 2 nation wide is very large. There are schools that are near a 40% failure rate from what is being told to us. Last year, we only had a couple people fail part 2. There was an obvious change to the boards that no one nationwide knew about.

So, don't discredit Housotn based on this year's NBDE part 2 because it is not isolated here. This problem is a nationwide thing.

That's BS.

unfortunately, this news is not BS.

Doc, until I had to take a year off for medical reasons, I was apart of the 4th year class here in Houston. I know everyone in the class and know for a fact that the info about the boards is accurate and reliable. This is a nationwide thing though - not isolated to Houston. The class president is in touch with class presidents of classes at various schools who are stating similar results are coming back for them.

thanks 🙂 for the hope texangal!

i'm still constantly checking sdn... i guess to drive myself crazy. haha but if i have to go crazy. i'm ok with that as long as SA or baylor takes me!😍

and wow at the info about the boards, but i guess i can understand.

Wow about the boards.

I was wondering if those stats 21-27/84 students failing their NBDE Part 2 are true statewide. Is there any way to see pass/fail rates for each school, or is it not public information. I know it changed to pass/fail but didn't know that you had to pass each section to pass.

Either way, i'm still attending Houston.

Actually, there are only 77 students now - 1 withdrew during the first semester because she decided she didn't like it, 1 transferred to another school to be with her husband after first year, 1 took time off for personal reasons, 1 (me) had to take off a year for medical treatment during 2nd year, 1 was murdered by her husband in 2nd year, and 2 were kicked out after 3rd year (this past summer).

The info is not public knowledge. The info about the boards is only as good as those willing to share the info. Because of the situation that is occurring this year, people who have failed are more open about it because they know they are not alone.

Thanks NAVY DDS for clearing that up. 🙂

Wow! I guess there still might be a chance. Thanks for the info TexanGal!

Yeah, she and I were friends and sat next to each other during lectures. It was pretty hard to deal with. Some of our classmates witnessed it. The incident really made me think about life and put things into perspective; hence the reason I have had the poem in my signature for the past couple years.

Just read up on her passing and background on what happened. That's a really sad story, but it sounded like she was a really awesome person.

Wow, I read up on that too. My heart goes out to all those involved, especially the kids that were left behind.

I've heard it from a friend, but did not follow up on the story. This is certainly sad and eye opening. I wish he would not be killed and would go behind bars for life to reflect on what he did. I hate it when it ends like this, so easy for him to die at the scene and not seeing the consequences. . And their poor children. I wonder if they ever have a normal life... this is sad...

I have not heard of any but I was looking on last years predent site and saw that there seemed to be some acceptances given out in mid February and at the beginning of march. I wonder if they will keep a similar pattern this year?

Dr. Segura told me that they will send out more acceptances in the second week of Feb. So lets see.

Good Luck.

one of my friends heard from Houston today. she will be joining me! hope others had good news as well 😀

😱

I thought that UTDB wasn't sending out acceptances until the end of February?

Dang.

Nope.

This seriously makes me sick to my stomach

Do not lose hope and patience. I know a guy in UTDB who said that he went to San Antonio in Jul looking for housing when he heard from Houston. So you never know. I interviewed with you and I know you must be so committed that you even brought your wife. So hang in there.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I think my wife is just as anxious about getting in as I am!

At this point, I just want a quick rejection email instead of going through all this waiting. It's just cruel.

watch what you are wishing for. You don't drop a baby, because it is due in 9 months :meanie:

For those of y'all waiting on Baylor I have some news. Whether it's good or bad is up to y'all lol.

I spoke with them this morning and was told that the class is full (we already knew that) but that they would be picking 20-25 people for an alternate list in April. These 20-25 people are chosen from the 120ish who have interviewed but have not heard anything from Baylor yet. I was also told that they typically use half to 3/4ths of the alternate list each year...

So, more competition and more waiting.

That's good news to me!

I thought the waitlist would be like 10 people with 4 or 5 being accepted off of there.

Yeah, she said they usually have to go through at least 3 people on the alternate list to fill an empty seat... which is why I think the number is so high.

That is good news! Lots of praying and wishing for the next few weeks 🙂
