Same here, except I'm opposite yall. I've heard from SA, but I haven't gotten anything from baylor and they've had mines since 7/31 too. I'm guessing baylor doesn't like that i'm a nonscience major???

Yeah, I guess so. San Antonio offered me an interview within a week of getting my application. Heard nothing from Houston except that they received my application. Baylor hasn't told me anything.

FWIW... i've heard that Baylor really stresses upper division science classes. hopefully you hear from them soon.

Can anyone tell me if TMDSAS LOR form and AADSAS LOR form are compatible.

My professors/dentists already filled out the TMDSAS evaluation form but if I decide to apply to out-of-state schools(that is out of Texas), do they have to fill another evaluation form for AADSAS? (I'm sending two individual letters and a dentist letter)

Would it be ok if I just send the LOR from interfolio directly to AADSAS?
Please let me know, I'm so lost:scared:

Good luck tomorrow Danny289!

Thanks buddy! same to you next week 👍 I worry a little bit, we have not heard from San Antonio and Houston and clock is ticking very fast!

Yeah I hear you. I've pretty much lost all hope for SA. I know Houston kind of moves slower so I'm holding on by a thread there. But I'm kind of going into the Baylor interview with the mentality that this is it. I hope they like me there!

I'm surprised you haven't heard from SA since you interviewed there last year...

Well the way I see it, regardless of where else we do or don't get interviews, we do have Baylor interviews which is something to be proud/grateful of!!!

I believe we are afternoon interviews. I think the morning interviewees have to be there at like 8:45AM or something like that.

Just for your information:

"So you think it’s hard to get into dental school? Maybe you’re right. Associate Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs Philip Pierpont, D.D.S., reports that The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston received 1,151 applications for the 84 slots in the dental freshman class, and 171 applications for 40 slots in the dental hygiene class.

Most of the dental freshmen will graduate in 2013 with doctorates, while the dental hygiene program will graduate its seniors in 2011, most with bachelor’s degrees.

Pierpont said the dental Class of 2013 is 56 percent male, 44 percent female. Nearly 23 percent are from historically under-represented minorities, and as a group, their mean GPA was 3.65. Of the 1,151 applicants, 747 were from Texas, he noted."

Ouch, that average GPA is pretty high! That must be one of the things holding me back from Houston.

Thank's for posting!

I'm in the opposite boat. I got interviews at SA and Houston but have heard nothing from Baylor.

My app was verified on 8/13. I heard from SA within a week from the day my app got verified but from Houston, nothing yet. Could anyone please share what day their app got verified and received interview from Houston and Baylor?

My app was verified 8/5/09 and heard from Baylor by snail mail (they are changing to e-mail now apparently). The snail mail was postmarked 8/10/09 and received 8/13/09. For me I heard back from SA about a few days after that. However, nothing from Houston yet. Hope that helps.

I doubt that is the case. A friend of mine got an interviews two years in a row with 3.4 and 19 DAT. Well he did not get in cuz his RC and pat were 16&17. BUT he got an interview.

I wonder if things are more competitive this year though. Ugh, all I know is that I don't have an interview there and my DAT scores have been available for a month.

heya people,

if anyone is specifically curious about Houston, yall can check out the thread UTDB Houston interviews... 🙂

TOTALLY do not mean to hijack/steal people from one thread to the other...

houston is my first choice, and may be other's too.... so thought it might be helpful =D

How does it feel to be done? Last year Baylor had a 57:45 female to male ratio in its entering class. I'm kind of wondering if that bodes better for men or worse...

Now all you can do is wait!:xf:

thanks for the advice on the interview danny.

that's pretty surprising that the girls outnumber guys so much.

that's awesome drm, i know by then you'll have feedback from atleast 2 more ppl!

I've searched threads but couldn't find anything on this topic for baylor, SA, or houston.

I'm from the dallas area and would be happy going to Baylor but have heard that at Baylor you have to do your own lab work. I've heard this is very time consuming and takes away from your study time. I know a lot of schools have migrated away from this practice because almost no dentists actually do their own lab work but have their crowns, dentures, etc... made at dental labs.

I called up admissions of baylor but the lady didn't even know what I was talking about. Any ideas?

if you are asking question about lab work;

Yes, In Baylor you must do your lab work.

I guess the 2nd question would be if it is that big of a deterrent that would make me choose houston over baylor if I didn't get into SA.

All Texas schools require you to do your own lab work I believe. Actually, I don't thing I've heard of a school that doesn't require you to do it.

But on to another topic, I received confirmation from Houston and SA that they received my application earlier this month (around the 6th) and have received an interview from SA for Oct. 5th and as expect, Houston has not offered any yet. My question is what is up with Baylor, they haven't contacted me (via email or snail mail) about even receiving my application. Should I call and make sure they have all my current documents and information? I checked the BAMF site as well and still nothing new.

Usually Baylor contacts people that they are interested in interviewing within 2 weeks of the time the app was verified. they dont send out any information stating they got your app or not. but good luck tho!

hey slm, it's true that baylor makes you do your own lab work- probably the most lab work out of all three dental schools. however, the other 2 schools do also make you do some work that you won't really do as a dentist either, like lab work wise, just not as much as baylor. as far as if it will interfer with your studying thats a personal thing. ive heard that baylor has a good lab and ive also heard some ppl don't like it b/c "all they want to do is graduate" i say just worry about one thing at a time, and pick which ever school you feel best at. any school is going to be a lot of work. if it was easy- everyone would be in dental school.

hope that helps. good luck 🙂

This is actually something that attracts me to Baylor. The dentist I shadow told me that all that lab work he did at Baylor really helped him hone his skills. I mean for example, after you get the crown back from the lab and you're fitting it on the patient, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to it so that it fits right. I mean, the way I see it, the skills acquired from doing that lab stuff may be more beneficial to real dentistry than a random fact from your biochem class.

Thanks guys. Just in case anyone else was wondering about the issue, southomfs gave me some good insight:

southomfs said:
It's all about what you're looking for. No doubt there is a ton of lab work at BCOD. It's managable. We cast all of our own gold crowns for the clinic. We wax up all dentures for patients. We pindex a lot of stuff. Most schools in their crown and bridge labs during D2 wax and cast a crown or two. We wax and cast about 20. Labs always say they can tell which grads went to Baylor based on the quality of dentistry and expectations. I've heard labs say that Baylor grads can get stuff back from the lab and call them and tell them which step they screwed up on, not just that they screwed.

Ultimately, it's about what you want to learn clinically. The lab stuff is great, but Baylor is the busiest program in the country. I've cut 36 crowns, and I have 48 more planned until graduation. I externed with a UPenn student that was starting D4. He hasn't even cut a single crown yet. Baylor is one of the cheapest schools in the country, and has the most requirements to graduate. If you have a choice with Baylor and somewhere else, consider Baylor.

I have a quick question. What are my chances I still haven't taken the DAT, its scheduled for October 18. I have already applied August 26th, 3.5 overall gpa science gpa 3.4 strong letters of recommendation and 500+ volunteer hours. I am only applying to texas schools (prefer houston) since i cannot relocate. My Topscore scores have been ranging from 17-19. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks

Are you talking about this cycle or next? Check houstons application deadline. I think oct 1 is for Baylor

This cycle. Already sent my application in for 2010. What do you think?

This is what Houston's website says,
What is the latest date I may take (or retake) the DAT?

The DAT must be taken no later than December 1 of the application year. Your application cannot go to the committee for review until the DAT scores are received. It's recommended the DAT be taken no later than late August early September.
http://www.db.uth.tmc.edu/studentaffairs/FAQ.htm#Counselors

I just want to get an opinion if anyone who has taken it this late still has a chance. I know it depends on my score. Thanks again.

And just to run you through the timeline of what you're talking about with the optimistic approach that you rock the DAT and Houston wants to interview you:

It takes 2-3 weeks for the ADA to send your scores. It'll take approximately a month for Houston to review your app and send you an invite for an interview a month later.

As you can see you're looking at like a January interview and you can refer to Doc Toothache's post for your chances at that point.

had my baylor interview today. very chill and Dr. Miller is so nice. good luck to everyone and don't stress out too much.

Trying not to but it's in two days!!:scared:

haha... i was the same way. i thought i was going to throw up as i walked from the parking garage to the science building.

but trust me, they are very nice. you won't get any crazy unexpected questions. know your application and just be yourself. there is a reason they're interviewing you this early. good luck 👍
