Texas A&M Health Science Center-Baylor...... TMDSAS Processing 5/26/2010

So nope. Not yet.

Mine have been. Doesn't matter since there's still one LOE that hasn't made it, as well as my DAT isn't until the end of July, lol

I just submitted my TMDSAS application, but my letters of evaluation and check have not been mailed yet. Is this ok? My application will just be viewed as incomplete until TMDSAS has received all documents right?

So, how does the school respond if accepted for an interview? email or phone or letter?

I think all will notify you via email. I think Baylor switched to doing it that way in the middle of last cycle.

scores are in, transcripts are in, personal statement is done....sent in letters last week so should be receiving this week some time. Wondering if I should just submit my application and check now since it takes them about 2-3 days to receive my check anyways and by that time my letters should come in...what do yall think?

Cougars, as in BYU cougars? I say submit.

I don't know if this was already answered, but is there not a place on TMDSAS to include manual dexterity?

Nah UH cougars...yeah i just submitted...probably should have submitted way earlier though. There wasn't a section on TMDSAS to include manual dexterity...not any that I saw

I just submitted my tmdsas and aadsas applications today. It is funny how the total cost of applying to 3 Tx dental schools is $95, but 6 out of state dental schools is almost a grand (including secondaries). I was surprised with the tmdsas gpa calc, cause when I calculated my science gpa, it was lower. Also, I did not do the optional essays, as my personal statement already covered the how will you add to the diversity of the class question.

Now time to bust my butt and study for the DAT - taking it on Aug 19th.

For those that have submitted already, did you guys sent out that $35 application fee to Baylor? I had no idea there would be an app fee for any of the tx schools until I was checking the supplemental info for other schools and saw it there.

Um...yes you have to pay the application fees if you want to apply... 😕

Whaaaa????! I knew Baylor had a secondary, but now they have a fee too?

yeah strange. I've never heard it be mentioned so I figured there would be people who didnt know like me.

Where did you see the application fee? All I see on the TMDSAS site is the application fee total - $95 for all three schools. I do not see any additional fee that we must pay. However, we are required to fill out a secondary for Baylor, but that is online and free.

Heres the Supplemental Info pdf from the aadsas site

Key word is that is from the AADSAS site, not TMDSAS.

I haven't filled out the Baylor supplemental yet but they've never charged a fee in the past to TX residents.

question

is there a spot on the AADSAS app for leisure activities like sports or woodworking? or do we put that in the manuel dexterity section?

and does AADSAS require a pic? or is that done by individual schools?

HASassin (or should I call you Hashshashin),

I think you would just put that under the manual dexterity section. AADSAS does not require a picture, but some schools will ask you to send one in.

sorry for confusing anyone! you're right alanan84, I emailed Janet and the $35 fee is only for out of state applicants. 😛

Is there a section on TMDSAS where you list which class you plan on taking in the upcoming Fall of 2010. I see a "Planned enrollment" section but you can only list which school you plan on enrolling in in the upcoming fall and spring semester.

Is there a section where you put which class you plan on taking in the future for Fall 2010?😕

Some people have been putting it in the College Coursework section, but I don't think that's technically right - because everything you put in that section is supposed to be on a transcript, and since you haven't taken it yet, there won't be anything on the transcript. I just put the terms in planned enrollment and moved on. If you get an interview, I'm sure they'll go over the classes you must complete before enrollment, or if they don't you can find it on their website.

This may seem like a really stupid question but here goes:

For the sections like healthcare activities, etc., if it's still ongoing they state to list the projected end date. And then the total hours.. So do I include how many hours for the entire time period (including projected dates) or just total hours up to this present time?

Should the estimated hours also be included in planned activities because technically it's not planned as it's in the process of occurring...?

Thanks! =)

U all talking abt HPAC.. Is it advisable to wait for the HPAC review or just send school letters? and even if i wait for the review what should be the score i must look for to decide to attach the HPAC review.

I talked to Baylor's Admissions Team and they would like for you to wait for the HPAC Committee letter to be sent in as well. It is best to wait for the committee to finish it. Also, for the guy who did not do the optional essays, I think it is a big mistake not to. They are essentially giving you 5000 more characters to write about yourself. You should use it. I wouldn't say it will hurt you for not doing it, but if everyone else is doing one, and you are not, it will look bad on your part. Also, it would not hurt you to do it.

No, there is no other space to put planned work. Just put that you are planning to take classes in those time periods and update with transcripts once you complete a semester. Like if you finish summer, it would be advisable to send the schools the transcript. You can send it to TMDSAS and see if they will send it to the schools, if not you are stuck sending to each school.

There is also an option for extracurricular activities. You can also put it there.

Yes, schools will not review until all documents are in, It will probably be under still processing.

The health advisory committee at my school won't meet until June 16 to review and make recommendations, is that still "early" for TMDSAS?

You'd be considered in the early-middle pack. Should not need to worry too much about it. Do expect the whole application won't be complete till end of June at the earliest time.

I'm waiting on my school to finish the committee recommendation packet deal, and they claim that this won't hold up my application. Anyone know if the schools sent out interview invites or review applications without letters received?

Would anyone recommend the optional essays?

The prompt says it's strongly recommended to take advantage of the opportunity. Obviously, if you have something to write about, you should. I only wrote one of the optional essays.

Yes, yes, yes. Absolutely do at least one essay, and I guess more importantly, the
Please describe any personal characteristics and/or important or challenging experiences you have had that will contribute to the diversity of or provide educational benefits to the student body.

Our health professions committee absolutely loved this essay. And I know it is difficult to put your life into 2500 characters but that gives the admissions committee even that much more info to put behind you as an applicant that would otherwise not be heard.

I didn't do the extra essay, because that information was already conveyed in my personal statement. This was done so I don't sound redundant. However, if you have more information that you want to provide the adcom, this allows you to do so. If you don't do it, it won't hurt you.

Wow this topic about optional essays seems to be coming up a lot.

Here's my answer.

1. TMDSAS says they are strongly encouraged. They allow you to paint a better picture of yourself so that adcoms can assess the non-statistical side of you.

2. They are optional. You don't have to answer both of them and you don't have to use the entire space provided. You don't want to regurgitate info from your personal statement and you probably don't want to sound like you're just trying to fill space.

One tip may be to go over your entire application and see if there's something significant about you that has not been brought up already or if there's some part of the app that you would like to expound on.

I did both of the optional essays. They took quite a bit of time, but hopefully they'll help my application. -- Submitted July 5th - Check and transcripts are currently on their way to Austin:] Hopefully the 4-6 weeks of processing is an exaggeration...

If a review score of 7 or 6 meaning "RECOMMEND" by committee...is it advisable to submit the LORs with review letter?

I'm alittle confused about the TMDSAS process. I submitted already and they received my check already and one of my transcripts. My other transcript seems to have been sent without the Index form, I'm assuming.. Well anyways it says the application is processing. The only problem are my letters, will they still be able to process without them? My committee packet is still in the process of being put together (waiting for professors to submit the letters). Will the dental schools still evaluate the app before the letters arrive?

No, they will evaluate it only after everything is sent in. You will just have to wait it out like the rest of us.

I have withdrawn from the 2011 cycle. You guys should probably start hearing back from Baylor and SA pretty soon! Good luck!

my app just got sent out today. i'm happy and relieved and yet angry it took a month to get sent out even though it's my fault.:scared:

i emailed them asking about my pending transcript and they said don't worry about it as your app will be sent anyway....it wasn't

my check's been cashed as of 6/17 and my transcripts/LOR/DAT have all been processed and approved and my app still hasn't been sent to the schools 🙁
