****tmdsas 2014****

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've already heard back from a couple schools but nothing from my home state. In getting a bit nervous about our prospects here everyone 😕

I'm expecting a flurry of invites in the next 3 weeks. As I've said, last year most of the interviews occurred in October and November, so we've got a solid 7-8 more potential weeks of invites coming out. SDN has been extremely quiet (with TX schools) the past 2 weeks, and I'm not sure I've seen more than one Houston invite anywhere. Just have to be patient! We'll get there...

I just got an interview offer last Friday for the end of September for Houston. Haven't heard from any other schools in state yet....

Is there anyone that had their mail-outs around the mid/end of August or the start of September? Have you received any emails?

Mailed out 8/21, got emails from BCD and UTSD same day. Got BCD interview 8/23. Heard nothing from SA.

Application completed on 8/16 and I haven't heard anything. My stats are pretty average though.

Good luck! From what I've been reading it really looks like we will start seeing more movement pretty soon.

Come on Texas!!! Lets get the ball rolling

Are you guys who are still waiting to hear from Texas schools August or September applicants? I submitted late June and transmitted early July but still not a peep. Looks like I got passed up huh?

I am! My application was mailed out on Aug 1st, then I received confirmation from all of the 3 schools by 2nd weeks of Aug, not a single peep since then...🙁(( Really worried now since my stats are average to below average (3.4 with 20/21/21).

Your stats are fine! With good ec's and letters i'm sure you'll be hearing back soon. I think more August and September applicants will start getting invites soon. I'd say it's the May-July applicants that haven't heard back yet that should be a little worried.

This cycle is weird and seems late. You'll get your calls!

I sure hope so! :xf: . I think this year there's a lot less people on the forums. I recently got in touch with an old friend and found out he's already knocked out all 3 interviews. I talked to Baylor a couple days ago and I was told they are sending out 10-20 invites weekly. We definitely haven't seen that many invites from all of Texas let alone just Baylor on SDN recently.

Yea, virtually no TX presence here. 1,000 applicants and like 5 regular posters. Happen to know when your friend applied? I know a lot of folks with high stats who applied really early got to interview in August and such, but last year there were early applicants with solid numbers who didn't go until very late. I'm not going to worry about it. There's still pretty much two months before it's time to worry IMO.

Have you talked to SA or Houston at all? I'm actually going to call SA tomorrow b/c they haven't verified that they even received my app and it's been a month.

Is UTHSCSA your top choice?

I've struggled to decide. I'm hoping to get a pre-December interview, but I think it will come down to feel between SA and BCD. But shoot, let's get in first!!!:luck::laugh:

IMHO, BCD is more elusive; kinda like a snow leopard.😉 :luck:

If I remember correctly I think it was around the end of July? When I talked to the schools I was just told that my app is complete and under review and that they aren't allowed to give any more info via the phone. They also said its still early in the cycle. I think Houston said this week was there 2nd week of interviews. For SA this is probably their 4th or 5th? Same for Baylor.

Oh certainly. Many unwritten requirements and implied qualifications. I had it written off after talking to Drs. Miller and Lacy since I am low in upper division bio hours, but that was before I had a solid DAT score...at least they're letting me interview. 👍 I think they have the highest acceptance rate for interviewees in TX IIRC, something like 40%.

Yea, I'll definitely give SA a call then, just to be sure. And woo them with my deep, dark chocolate voice.😎

Super stoked to have gotten my first invite from Baylor last week!!

Hey everyone hope everything is going well, Im hoping back on this form since interviews are starting to get sent out.

This is my second time to apply, I interviewed at all texas schools and was put on Baylor and Houstons alternate list last cycle.
My stats are 20AA/20TS/23PAT and a 3.2GPA with a BS in biochemistry. Im currently seeking a MS degree. Let me know if yall have any questions.

Bumping this thread up.

Has there been any movement for anyone? It's been pretty quiet for Texas schools lately.

Not for me, but my friend is interviewing in Houston next week so...there's some activity. Slow activity yeah, but activity nonetheless.

Any idea when your friend applied?

The differences between this year and last year are strange on SDN.

July 11th, and she's a first time applicant. And I agree...I'm feeling the Texas c/o 2018's will be a class of gunners. Hahah.....jk?

Lol! Well I've completed one interview, have another Monday...everyone I met seemed very smart, but no one broke a 21AA from what they said. Who really knows? It was a very nice group of people and maybe only one of them struck me as having that gunner mentality (but we also picked on him for it )

I also recently spoke to a current Houston student and he said that a significant portion of his class interview after December.

I hope that's true for this year too, although I really wish it would be before December. I submitted my app in May so I'm slowly starting to lose hope.. 🙁

How was your interview? Also, where was it? Any more news that you may have gathered for us? lol

Nice! Yeah I was being sarcastic about that lol. But yeah, I always remember the Texas schools emphasizing that they always leave a fair amount of interviews for post Dec with and equal opportunity of being accepted as well. Why that is? I have no idea, Texas is weird, but hey, hope for everyone sweating heads off in this quiet quiet tmdsas 2014 thread huh? Lol

It went well. Very simple and laid back. San Antonio was great as well.

Well, Baylor not so much. I think they generally fill their class very early. Houston for sure though...which is strange since it puts them at a disadvantage for highly qualified applicants. Houston gives very little notice for interviews, so there's still conceivably 6 weeks before pre-Dec invites stop going out. Maybe slightly less for the other schools.

Right right I forgot about Baylor. Did they happen to mention how many are accepted on the first wave? Last year I remember SA and Houston both saying a large number, but not necessarily half or majority, minus those who deny their acceptance.

I didn't ask so I don't know about Baylor. SA mentioned that they over-invite on December 1 (or 2, they weren't sure), so it seemed like they are shooting to fill up a large portion. I only have anecdotal evidence from Houston, from this thread last year and a friend of mine at the school.

I'm not sure where I heard this from, but I remember hearing a number as high as 100 acceptances being sent out the first wave from Houston.

Highly suspect number. ADEA for this year says they interview ~300 and send out ~150 acceptances a year.

Yeah, I doubt Houston needs to send out 200 acceptances to fill their seats.

It's been great keeping up with yall and getting to share in on the updates!

I'm not applying for a while but I was wondering how long did it take yall to finish the application? I know the website and everyone highly emphasizes not rushing through the application so I was wondering if you gave yourself a week, 2 weeks, etc. to apply?

You can "rush" if you're thorough and can be sure that you've made no mistakes, I mean the earlier the submission the better I think. For me I worked on my personal statement for about a month before the application opened (with editing and reviews from whoever) and submitted the entire application it mid mayish. So yeah like...2-2.5 weeks.

Thanks, that seems like a reasonable plan. I'm assuming the personal statement part of the application doesn't really change much year to year and that one would already have listed out their previous activities, LORs, and all that jazz beforehand so when the application opens up, it's easier fill in?

Has anyone who has not received an invite from a particular school given then a call? I have received all of the "app received" emails and havent heard a peep. Starting to get pretty anxious.

I called SA 3 weeks ago bc I hadn't gotten the app received email. Got that and an invite the next day.
