Hi there, for one of my research activities, I have several presentations and a possible publication (under review right now).

I don't have enough space in the TMDSAS descriptions to fit everything in there. I probably won't have enough space for AMCAS either. In fact, I'm having to abbreviate the conference names because of a lack of space.

How should I approach this? The publication is likely but not guaranteed, so I can't put it under its own section. There are a lot of presentations and I would likely not have enough space to cite all of them. Should I create separate sections for each of the presentations, even though they are all from the same research group, investigating basically the same topic each time?

I was involved in a community engagement activity. After 1 year of involvement, I was promoted to the leader of the activity (around 2 months ago).

Therefore, I feel like I could categorize this in both the community engagement section and the leadership sections, but I wanted to confirm that I'm doing this right.

For hours, would I just count the hours in the community engagement, and then just write 0 hours under the other section? In general, is that how it works when you have an activity that counts as two (or more) things - where you count the hours under one section and 0 under everything else?

I know they say that you should generally avoid counting an activity under multiple sections, but to what extent should I avoid this? I feel that many of my activities can be counted under more than 1 section.

in the research category you will be asked if there are associated publications. If yes you will get 500 more characters
Don’t pad it by making several entries for posters & presentations on the same research

Can you tease out the service hours vs the leadership hours? Or terminate the service hours at the point where it turned into leadership activity?

Community engagement: 9/1/2023-present 300 hours
Leadership in Community Organization: 9/1/2024-present: 100 hours

or

Community engagement 9/1/2023-8/31/2024: 200 hours
Leadership in Community organization 9/1/2024-present: 200 hours

Same number of hours, 200 per year just presented differently with second year being half engagement, half leadership.

Does either of those work for you?

Or you can just mention the leadership role in the description of the engagement activity but then you don't have a leadership tag on any item which could be useful.

What I mean is that in the first 500 I described the topic of the research. But for the 500 additional characters, I don't have space there.

This is helpful! Basically, when it turned into a leadership activity, I stopped actually doing the service itself, but rather directing others to do the service. It's a little weird. I think I'll probably have to do 2 activities.

The TMDSAS guide will tell you which can be listed in more than one category
If you do list leadership in a separate category don’t count the hours twice
I just feel like the TMDSAS guide is too restrictive, because don't they say only do it if you are splitting employment with something else?

There is no limit to the number of entries on TMDSAS. If you need a separate one for the pure leadership role put it under leadership and put your volunteer stuff under volunteering
Read the guide again, or tune in to one of the many TMDSAS live Q&A presentations on YouTube

Ok, makes sense - so let's say I do both leadership and community engagement.

Then for planned activities, would I again have separate entries for leadership and another one for community engagement?
