I tried to reach out to TMDSAS to ask this, but they never responded.

Basically, my question is that over the past year I volunteer back in my home state when I visit. I have a couple hundred hours.

I don't know if this activity outside of the state would cast in doubt my residency status. I am contemplating removing it, but it is an important part of my application. I am worried I keep the experience and risk losing residency, or remove the experience and miss including valuable hours.

I don't know what to do or how this is considered. As a non-trad, my work takes me outside of the state sometimes, but I didn't think that was an issue until I started volunteering specifically at a location outside of Texas.

I have everything else to document my time in Texas (license, rent, etc). I hate that I'm obsessing over what should be a non-factor, but well, here I am

No special experience to give me insight on their residency designations, but I would be very surprised if that was the case.
State residency for college is a legal designation, or something close to that. It's determined by things like... primary domicile, where you work and pay taxes and own a home. Not where you travel to or do projects.
