Here's my scenario. I've obviously been out of school for a while. I took the new MCAT last year, which ended up not being the best idea, because I was more prepared for the old MCAT with my study materials. Most of the new materials weren't out yet.
Needless to say, even though they don't have a great gauge of standardization of the scores yet, my scores weren't awful, but they really weren't great.

Just to test the waters, I applied to a bunch of D.O. schools to see what would happen. Unfortunately for me, my former college professors (that weren't retired or dead) flat out refused to recommend me, mostly because I've been out of school so long. Since I had no luck getting my professor recommendation and was still doing physician shadowing, I didn't get a lot in terms of response. I wasn't terribly surprised, but it gave me an idea of the process. Now I've just collected job manager/collegue recommendations as per the suggestions of admissions counselors of the med schools.

Anyway, I studied more, re-took the MCAT and I'm applying once again.

Here's my question...should I bother disclosing where I applied the previous year where it asks me on the application? Does it matter? What is the purpose of that question for admission committees? Since I applied to so many places would it be better to leave it blank as though I just started?

Thanks for any tips or suggestions!

The TMDSAS will ask you to certify whether the information that you provided on the application is accurate. By deliberately leaving that section blank, you are trying to be deceptive. If you are caught, there are a whole range of potential sanctions which can impact your ability to matriculate to any medical school . It just isn't worth it to try. As a side note, many applicants are re-applicants. There is no shame in trying again. I highly doubt the number of schools you applied to will come up in any interview or admissions discussion. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't finished the TMDSAS application as of yet. I'm sure if I'd gotten to the end section and saw the sign off I would have probably gone back to put it in. I was just making sure that it wasn't optional. Thanks again!
