My sister may have TMJ disease (pain, tightness). Should she see a dentist or an ENT? Is there a way to know if a dentist has special skill in dx & tx of the problem of is it something any general dentist can handle?

She needs to visit a general dentist. All dentists should have training in dealing w/ tmj. If it is a problem out of their scope, they will refer her to the appropriate specialist.

Having TMDisorder symptoms is a very common problem. During dental school, the curriculum does allow for quite a bit of TMD training. Most cases can be handled by a GP, however, occasionally there may be a need for a referral to an oral surgeon or a medical specialist -- these occasions are usually reserved for the most severe cases.

Take tyrenol 4 times a day for 10 days for the inflamation and put ice pack on the cheek that has pain.
I just saw a oral surgeon and he told me to do so.

Uhh...

Each persons situation will be different. She needs to see a dentist and then they can tell her what to do based on her situation. Tylenol only reduces the pain/discomfort, but will not treat the underlying problem.

Also this forum is not for giving out medical advice, for specific advice please have her visit a dentist.

Tylenol (with an L) won't do anything for inflammation.

And, even though everyone here has heard it 100 times, SDN isn't for giving professional advice (particularly when one hasn't even begun one's professional education).

A capable general dentist will be able either to manage your friend's case or refer it to the proper specialist.
